REDDOGICE (202), nantucket, Massachusetts, USA Jul 3, 2005 one of the better Malt Liquors I have had. I dont like Malt Liquor, but this is somewhat ok. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Sep 22, 2004 A smooth clean malt liquor. Im not offended and thats a plus with the style. Not much else to say
mjg74 (1995), La Mesa, California, USA Aug 7, 2004 Not bad for a malt liquor. Although it’s not as strong as some of the other ones. I guess that’s why they call it light. Just a boring cheap beer. Reid (1085), Salem, Oregon, USA Nov 11, 2003 Dang I used to love the Black Star Black Lager these guys put out..i thought they were out of business..but I have began to see 24 oz cans of this Light appearing.
Appearance is pretty average american macro..pale yellow but with a good sized white head..it goes fast to leave a slight lace.
Smell is non-existant..some hops maybe.
This is not the same Black Star I remember..this is weak weak macro puke....no malts some small hops but very feeble this is meant to be "double hopped" or so the can says..maybe that means 0.0001% hp compared to 0.00005%?
Not impressed by the yukky mouthfeel
Not drinkable.
What the heck happened to this company...ahhhh now Isee its no longer brewed in Montana, but in Milwaukie Wisconsin..I smell a macro take over of this company and it sucks GreatStelle (355), Chico, California, USA Nov 8, 2003 Horrible. I should just end my rating there. No flavor with a disgusting finish. Alcohol seems to dominate the finish. I took three drinks and now I'm going to dump it down the drain. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA Oct 23, 2003 Yes, malt liquor rocks. Can't see how it is light, but apparently it is. Had this on the way to vegas and it did not dissapoint. PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 17, 2003 Had this as a nightcap after a cross country flight to Seattle. Came in a 24 oz can dressed up to look like a malt liquor - don't let the "Light" moniker fool you. I visited this brewery in Montana years ago - obviously it has changed - owned by the same wonderful folks that brought us Steel Reserve. Has a slight, wet paper bag aroma with a yellowy almost see-through appearance and is topped off with a pithy white head. Has a bolied corn flavor with a tad of sweetness seeping through. 5.9% ABV makes its presence known! Not bad for a $1.29 for a 24 oz can.
