Commercial Description:
We begin with a custom mixture of dark and roasted barley malts, then we add the choicest hops. The resulting ale has a dark chestnut color and a deep nutty flavor. Brewed specially for Trader Joe's.

Pours a very dark brown/black with minimal tan head that dissipates quickly. A decent nutty/caramel aroma. The nuts continue into the flavor, which isn’t very complex but pleasant enough. Not much body - wished it was a little bit creamier. A great beer for the price though, $6 for a six pack at Trader Joe’s.

From bottle. Rich malty aroma with molasses and caramel, light licorice. Mild hop notes, but mainly malty. Buckwheat honey. Bit of coffee, too. Dark brown clear with thin off-white head. Medium watery body with medium-heavy carbonation. Starts sweet with caramel and molasses, roasted grain and toasted malt. Light nutty bitter finish with honey and light coffee. Pretty good brown ale, which I don’t normally go for.

Based on the description I was expecting a Moose Drool because of the "nutty" flavor. I did not really pick on the nuts based on the deep nut description on the label. I guess I was expecting more. The beer is smooth but is overall pretty boring. Still not a bad drink at a party.

Clear dark brown pour. Tan head. Coffee beans, toffee and some toasty nuts in the nose. Flavor is sweet. I get oxidized apples, caramel, bread and some dark honey. Ok beer.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a thin short lived head, with a bit of lacing, over a clear dark copper (SRM 19-20) body......nose is a bit of coffee, chocolate, also malty grains.....taste is sweetish malt to start, balanced by highly roasted malts (coffee, cocoa) finishing with a light grassy hop bite combined with a slight nutty ending....mouth feel is light and comes close to watery, carbonation is medium high and adds an unpleasant fizzy character.

Distinctively musky aroma with chocolate and coffee note on the tongue. Not bad for the price. Not bad at all. A definate repeat.

Pours a clear, dark brown about midway between mahogany and cola with a fairly thick if not persistent pale cinnamon head. Aroma is strong, smoky and malty with nutty and molasses hints. Flavor, unfortunately, does not live up to the promise of the aroma - it is malty with nutty and caramel undertones but lacks the nice smoky touch of what I regard as a true porter. Texture is quite smooth and just a teensy on the watery side.

Finally picked up a sixer of this at Trader Joe’s. Not a bad beer, especially for $5.99 for a sixer. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of coffee, and roasted malt. Finishes slight sweet. Some chocolate in the flavor as well, better than I expected.
