Lyncham (48), Ohio, USA Nov 8, 2009 Based on the description I was expecting a Moose Drool because of the "nutty" flavor. I did not really pick on the nuts based on the deep nut description on the label. I guess I was expecting more. The beer is smooth but is overall pretty boring. Still not a bad drink at a party. daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Nov 5, 2009 Clear dark brown pour. Tan head. Coffee beans, toffee and some toasty nuts in the nose. Flavor is sweet. I get oxidized apples, caramel, bread and some dark honey. Ok beer. drjay44 (758), Salida, Colorado, USA Oct 12, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a thin short lived head, with a bit of lacing, over a clear dark copper (SRM 19-20) body......nose is a bit of coffee, chocolate, also malty grains.....taste is sweetish malt to start, balanced by highly roasted malts (coffee, cocoa) finishing with a light grassy hop bite combined with a slight nutty ending....mouth feel is light and comes close to watery, carbonation is medium high and adds an unpleasant fizzy character. tpatrickr (4), Richmond, Virginia, USA does not count Oct 8, 2009 Distinctively musky aroma with chocolate and coffee note on the tongue. Not bad for the price. Not bad at all. A definate repeat. Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA Sep 30, 2009 Pours a clear, dark brown about midway between mahogany and cola with a fairly thick if not persistent pale cinnamon head. Aroma is strong, smoky and malty with nutty and molasses hints. Flavor, unfortunately, does not live up to the promise of the aroma - it is malty with nutty and caramel undertones but lacks the nice smoky touch of what I regard as a true porter. Texture is quite smooth and just a teensy on the watery side. chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 29, 2009 Finally picked up a sixer of this at Trader Joe’s. Not a bad beer, especially for $5.99 for a sixer. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of coffee, and roasted malt. Finishes slight sweet. Some chocolate in the flavor as well, better than I expected. mike67 (74), , New Jersey, USA Aug 27, 2009 12oz bottle purchased at Trader Joe’s. Pours dark brown with a tanned long lasting foamy head. The aroma of dark fruit, raisins, roasted malt with hints of floral hops. The flavor was sweet dark fruit and caramel malt in the beginning followed by light coffee and dark chocolate notes. Finish is short and on a sweet side. I did not expect much but was pleasantly surprised. For this price I will definitely buy it again. IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 11, 2009 Bottle pours a clear deep dark brown, with a small short lived light tan head. Light roasted aromas slightly of coffee and bittersweet chocolate. Light bodied and a slightly smokey flavor. Very low bitterness and soft carbonation.
Dark for a brown ale, but mild like one.
