Ever-so-slightly cloudy golden brown body, off white head. Full flavour, light but rich mouthfeel. I’m loving the malt here. Much better than the name. maniac (2697), Richmond, Virginia, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 5, 2007 The sign at Trader Joe’s said something like "this ale is all about the hops". This made me wonder if this was some crazy blackened PA or hoppy porter or if the sign writer was just making stuff up. He was just making stuff up. This is a very nice brown ale, actually more a deep red in color. Basically no head. Delicious chocolate aroma, very inviting. There is some bitterness and hop presence to match the chocolate, caramel malt flavors. Smooth finish, nice beer. Just a tad watery in the finihs. rmussman (906), California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 4, 2007 A nice brew. Lots of roasted goodness. Appearance is dark brown with a ling lacey brown head. Mouthfeel is smooth with lots of malts and flavor is rich. A fair brew. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 27, 2007 Courtesy of IrishBoy. Aroma is a touch dusty with coffee and malt standing out the most. The body is a dark amber to brown color with a diminishing tan head. The fore is nice and malty but yields to a fairly roasty bitterness with hints of chocolate and coffee. It gets positively bitter toward the finish and has some faint caramel accents in the aftertaste. It’s a fairly tasty, easy drinking brew with a very style appropriate mouthfeel. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Feb 26, 2007 Bottle from Trader Joe’s, Lake In The Hills, IL. (My fiancee bought it for me!) Pours lush and black with an olive-brown head. Hints of coffee are immediately noticeable in the nose. Flavor is pecan coffee, with emphasis on the flavor and not the bitter feel of coffee. Bits of roasted nut are in the mix as well. A bit watery on the palate. Average, at best. pantani (1902), Salinas, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2007 Body is a dark brown, with a very thin tan head. Aroma is heavy caramel, mollasses, toffee, and coffee. Taste is heavy coffee, with some caramel showing through, nutty too. A very good brown. JPDIPSO (4939), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 8, 2007 Brown color with a hint of ruby when held to the light. Moderate tan head with a tight sheet of lace. Dark caramel, light roasted malts and hints of cocoa and dark cherries in the aromas. Toffee and roasted nut flavors dominate. A light somewhat herbal bitterness mid quaff. Quite dry and a touch astringent in the finish. An average brown ale, whatever that means.
