Farily malty aroma. the beer is between medium to light bodied. flavor is a nice blend of roasted malts and molasses. slow but clean finish. Pretty good beer. ElBorracho (472), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 21, 2006 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with amber highlights. This is one malt heavy brew with molasses and some toasty notes. While not a bad brew I found this to be very mediocre. GG (1640), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 17, 2006 Quite the drinkable beer! Another beer in the group I brought with me while camping and it was very nice. Aroma was simply roasted malts with some caramel sweetness thrown in the mix. Appearance was coke like in color only, whith minimal bubbles and a thin head. Mouthfeel was medium-bodied, with enough bite to let you know you were drinking an ale (surely though not a porter). Flavors were along the same lines as the aroma but it also carried a nice dark chocolate hint and some coffee. If you rated this and added the cost alone, then this is an extremely good find. This beer could sell for a few dollars more, but let’s not tell Trader Joe’s this. I like getting good beer on the cheap. 505 (271), Echo Park, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 13, 2006 Pours dark brown, not too much head. Very roasty aroma, malty flavor, medium mouthfeel. Nothing to rave about, but well worth drinking. clong83 (243), San Diego, California, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 8, 2006 This beer was disappointing. It was a lot heavier than I was expecting for a brown ale, a little more like a stout, but the flavor was somehow kind of thin and watery. Go figure. Not bad, I suppose, but I won’t be picking uit up again. blueturk (68), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 5, 2006 Pours with nice tan head. Dark brown with red highlights. Fruity aroma with raisin/prune present. Moderately bitter, but fairly well balanced. Decent beer. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Aug 4, 2006 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized light brown colored bubbles that was mostly lasting and left behind a transparent softly carbonated dark caramel brown colored body and a good lacing. The aroma was malty with very nice chocolate and roasted malt notes. The semi-thick mouth feel was had a malty tingly start that mellowed in the finish. The flavor contained crisp notes of dark malt and roasted malt. A bit on the thin side but still yummy and one I would certainly buy again. heemer77 (4304), Savannah, Missouri, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 16, 2006 A dark brown body with ruby highlights. The head was sligtly khaki. The aroma had smells of walnuts and old caramel candies. The taste was some nice almonds with some warming alcohol, almost like Amaretto. The taste also had a little bit of milk chocolate in the finish. A decent brown but, normal for the style, it is boring.
