Commercial Description:
We begin with a custom mixture of dark and roasted barley malts, then we add the choicest hops. The resulting ale has a dark chestnut color and a deep nutty flavor. Brewed specially for Trader Joe's.

Pours a reddish brown body with a moderate head. Body is fairly clear. Aroma is more like a stout or porter. Mainly roast with coffee, but also some chocolate in there. The typical nutty aroma for a brown ale is minimal. Flavor is nutty with caramel and a hint of coffee. Finishes fairly bitter. For a $5 6 pack this beer won. It’s kinda funny seeing some other reviews and that some people think this was a schwartz or a porter. Given the name of the beer and it’s aroma I’m not surprised.

dark body until held up to light,it then changes to a ruby red.nice 1/4 inch head.nice chocolate malty aroma.chocolate, milk, and malts make up the flavor.id say this is along the lines of a sweet stout, instead of a brown ale.

Poured a light brown with some ruby highlights, average tan head - very bubbly, little lacing. Smelled somewhat skunky. Flavor seemed too light, somewhat nutty, smooth middle, with only mild hops at finish. Drinkable, but not great.

bottle passed along from the inestimable lou18, sweet malty aroma, not that strong, dark brown, watery looking body, slight tan head., nice roasty flavor, some caramel, a little bit of toast, little bit of nuts, slight bits of chocolate in the tail. very smooth, if thin body, this makes me think of a thinned out schwarzbier or dopplebock. a very nice easy to drink brew, that could easily be one of my everyday drinkers.

Bottle. Very dark brown-mahogony with a thin light beige head. Light sweet malt aroma. Roasty flavor that’s not at all overpowering, along with some malt, caramel, and nuttiness. Very drinkable.

Very good in every sense...I don’t have anything bad to say about it, execpt that I don’t have any more of it. Easy to drink....very quenching....mild, and no skunky flavor. Good stuff.

Chestnut and brown sugar aroma. Fluffy layer of head and dark leather brown. Flavor is brown ale but has a resemblance to a toned down porter to my tastebuds. A tad bit bitter with a decaff coffee taste and hint of roasted malt and sugar.

Surprisingly decent Brown...with strong roasted malt aroma, nice rich brown pour, lightly carbonated mouthfeel, roasted malt sweetness, caramel and toffee notes, and a bit of a bite at the end (just a "bit"). Mouthfeel seems a little thin. I agree with SDalkoholic, in a blind taste test, I could see myself calling this one a "toned-down porter". All things considered, a pretty drinkable (and inexpensive, for a change) beer.
