Pours a nice black-brown with a finger and a half of quickly dissolving off-white head. Aroma so faintly of nuts and malt as to be non-existent. Flavor is equally faint. Almost nothing there. Not sure what’s going on with this. Subsequent tastes reveal more dark sweetness and roasty flavor that is actually pretty pleasant. Carbonation keeps it interesting, but still, nothing truly noteworthy here. MoDog (927), Griffith, Indiana, USA

Dark mahogany pour with a thin head of lasting tan foam. Spotty lacing. The aroma included mild roast, caramel, toasted nuts, and some cold coffee. The flavor was lightly roasty and sweet. Mild roast was followed by sweet, toasted caramel and nuts. A bit of chocolate and herbal hops in the finish. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and had moderate carbonation. A fairly standard brown ale. Not bad. jerc (3954), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 29, 2009 Pours a dark brown almost black in color. Good taste for such a dark beer. Taste of nuts and good hints of barley malt. A good dark ale that I’m glad I stumbled and bought. Will by it again. Nuffield (2728), Roseville, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 24, 2009 Rich, malty beer, more akin to a well-carbonated porter, such is its roasted quality, though the body is very "normal" in the beer sense of that. Sitting out back with a log fire, it’s not a bad beer, but it isn’t a beer to lust after either. Decent coffee finish, it is true. Thanks Dean for sharing! SturmWulf (65), USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 3, 2009 A nice aroma of caramel and malt with touch of chocolate and nuts. It reminded me of a porter in smell. It poured a nice deep chestnut with a thin tan head that slowly faded and left a light lacing. A light sweet taste of nuts, roasted malt and caramel with a hint of coffee at the end. The body was between medium and full with a thick creamy texture and a slightly bitter finish that was pleasant. This is a very nice brew one that I would definitely try again. Served in a Pint at 45 degrees. Well done! Foxbush (468), Richmond, Virginia, USA

This is my second dark lager in a month. The dark roasted malts produces a dark lager with tatse of nuts. This is good drink. Not a stout or porter but a tasty beer. Medium body with a head that laced down the glass. This beer will be worth having more. md09grad (4), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA does not count | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 30, 2009 If at Trader Joe’s, this is a must; seems to be one of their more moveable beers as well. Looks like a Guinness in a mug, but tastes much smoother and creamier.
