Pours straw golden with a nice sudsy white head. Soft and light creamy texture. Faint sweet and pale malt aroma. Flavor of european pale malts, with just the right amount of sweetness and a delicate spicy bitterness to balance it out. Very clean finish. This beer is rather simple, but pairs well with food. Also an excellent choice for the crossover BMC drinker. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 3, 2007 5/10/2007: Blackstone German Style Kolsch Ale (neck label reads "Chaser Pale Ale") is a yellowish-straw color and has a foamy white head. Rapid carbonation feeds the residual small, creamy crown that aids in the creation of dense, foamy lacing. The aroma is pale malts and some sweetness. The flavor is grainy and has a slight Pils quality to it along with some creaminess. There is a really mild balancing bitterness in the finish. The body is medium-light and feels soft, very smooth, and creamy on the palate. This beer is quite clean and refreshing and very easy to drink.

12 oz bottle
Recent brewing, chased down 05/07
Medium pour in an English Pint
Poured a slightly hazy gold with a medium white somewhat lasting fizzy head.
Smelt of moderate lightly toasted white bread, and light flowery hops.
Taste was upfront moderate bitter grassy hops and sweet bread followed by a moderate bitter doughy yeast and hop grassiness on an average length finish.
Palate was light to medium bodied, slightly oily, sparkling, and lightly astringent and metallic on the finish.
Overall, this isn’t the best example of a Kolsch I’ve ever had. The finish and the metallic twang is somewhat bothersome. I just wish it was a bit more rounded and hoppy. VTHopHead (925), Barre, Vermont, USA

Aroma is quite malty with a minor amount of hoppiness. Flavor is also very malty with little hop bitterness. Unusual aftertaste that lingers and is not all that pleasant. Not enough hop flavor or bitterness for the style. Not a bad beer, but not to style. kyzr (1123), Belgrade, Montana, USA

Flavor is much the same, rather sweet up front and not a lot of hops. Was suprised by the balance and texture. decaturstevo (2004), decatur, Tennessee, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 26, 2007 12 oz btl. An aroma of sweet malt wrapped in wet paper. An aroma I associate with the style. A clear golden pour. A flavor that is a bit sweeter than I would have thought. A slight bitter that again is familiar to the style but a little weak. A slightly fizzy and watery, again maybe par for the style. Not a bad beer not one of my favorites but well done. IrishBoy (2718), Bakersfield, California, USA

Clean and light, probably good in the summertime. Although not a bad beer at all, I can’t really place it in the same category as German Kolsch’s I’ve had in Germany.
