Commercial Description:
Dubbel is one of the styles brewed by the Trappist monasteries of Belgium. Sugar is used in addition to malt to boost the strength, while keeping the body light and "digestable." Our dubbel uses unprocessed Turbinado sugar for this purpose, with the focus being on the complex aromatics and flavors produced by the special yeast. Named in honor of the Belgian patron saint of brewers, innkeepers and bartenders, St. Amandus represents the hospitality shown by monasteries towards thirsty travelers. O.G. - 1.067 IBUs - 23

Mode: Draft
Source: Brewpub
Appearance: clear dark ruby red, lots of bubbles stuck to the side of the glass, creamy beige head, drippy lace
Aroma: light dry malt aroma
Flavor: caramel malt flavor, light estery sweetness is balanced by an earthy spicyness leaving it mostly dry
Overall: too dry for me, bring on the fruity esters!

Thanks to Justin for bringing us a sample down to woody’s! Clear dark amber brown pour with ring of light tan head. Aroma is sweet malt, belgian yeast, and hints of cherries. Flavor is about the same. Certainly a bit of alcohol on this one, I’d suspect this might be pushing the ’low alc’ TN laws to the limit. Considerably better as it warms.

On tap at Blackstone’s, Nashville. Reddish-copper pour, tan head. Decent lace. Poured too cold and had to let it sit for awhile to bring out the nose and flavor. Lively mouthfeel, spicy, candy notes, alcohol hint. Cherry notes came out as the beer warmed. Dry finish. Decent.

On tap at the brewery. Poured a hazy brown color with a two finger brown head. The aroma was very malty, with dark fruits present. The flavor was well balanced, with a bit of sugar present. This was a solid beer. If the body had been just a bit heavier, this would have been excellent.
