Tap @ brewery. Garnet brown in color, and translucent, with a creamy, expansive tan wrung for the head. Cocoa powder and arid, crisp, chocolate wafers begin the aromatic tune, joined by sweet chocolate morsels melted over caramel chews. Some crushed mocha beans intermingle with chocolate malt grains. A classic rendition is upon us, with coffee bitterness saluting a dark chocolate mix. Tiramisu layers pull at the arid chocolate and espresso grind incantations. Milky cocoa and iced mocha coolers continue onward and are free from sweet interjections. It’s au natural, baby. Some sharp vibes and syrupy palate palpitations, but generally steers clear from the common flaws typically found in brewpub porter renditions. Honed carbonation lets the coffee bitterness do its thing, most prolifically in the finish. Blackstone puts out some pretty good stuff.

Rich and smooth not to hoppy. Just bitter enough to make you smile. The kind of brew that truly makes you sad to see the glass go empty. When you plan to try a number of pints be sure to try it early so that you can appreciate the work.

From the my favorite brewpub in Nashville, and maybe the state. Pours a dark brown red. I think what some people are failing to realize that this beer is a BROWN PORTER! Why knock a beer for something it’s not supposed to be? Very thin head. Medium coffee aroma. Subtle flavors of coffee and bitter chocolate, but stronger in hazelnut and sweetness. Just the right touch of hops to keep this from being to aggressive and entering American or Robust Porter territory. Medium to medium light body. Clean finish and very easy to drink. This is a solid session porter, and perhaps a good example for getting a newbie into the style. Michael Jackson has this beer in his Ultimate Beer Guide, and deservingly so. They need to bottle this stuff. Their strongest house beer on tap.

Wonderfully delightful, what a good porter should taste like. Dark and thick with a good maltiness, and a touch of hops. Very full rich body.

Growler brought from the brewery. Pours a nice deep brownish red with minimal head. Aroma of toast, chocolate, and smoky malt. Tastes just like it smells: smoke, bitter chocolate, toast, some coffee, and some tannic wood. Peanuts in the finish. A good, solid porter.

growler. Pours a rich dark red with a thin white head. Malty and roasty in the nose. Tastes like coffe and some mild milky sweetness. The flavor is a little one-dimensional, but it’s a good flavor. This is my favorite TN brew thus far.

Reddish blackish borwnish, with a thick, foamy, tan head. Milky coffee aroma. Thick and rich, with a very appealing coffee flavor. Hint of peppery hops in the finish. Kind of dry at the end. Tasted at the brewpub.

Draft at Music City Brewer’s Fest. Black in color with an average sized creamy head that left good lacing. Moderate malt smells of molasses but some hints of hops sticking out. The flavor was of chocolate and molasses again with a hint of hops in there. Medium body with soft carbonation.
