Commercial Description:
Blanche De Brooklyn, a traditional Belgian-style white beer, or biere blanche, is named after its striking pale color. Blanche de Brooklyn, formerly a seasonal product, is now available year-round. White beers are made with a traditional dose of coriander seed and Curacao orange peel added during the boil for extra snappy flavor. Brewmaster Garrett Oliver also adds his own secret selection of spices of Blanche de Brooklyn.

Draft at the Shockoe Craft Beer Festival in Richmond, 8/26/06: Bright yet muted yellow color, but little light penetrates it. Creamy white head. Nice banana yeast nose. Sweet creamy fruitiness. Creamsicle? Bit too sweet for me, but good.

Tap at WAH. Newly tapped keg poured a cloudy yellow/gold with a billowy, craggy white meringue-like head towereing over the rim in a peak (like the mashed potatoes Devil’s Tower in Close Encounters) and which left spotty lacing (I guess I was lucky, since prior raters’ heads died on impact). Aroma of quick bread batter- lemon walnut or banana walnut- with some spice (coriander, clove) and soapy yeast. Tart lemony banana and coriander flavor, with some yeasty dough. Cream soda palate. Not bad, though I’m not big on Belgian style wits to begin with.

Flour City Brewfest ’06’. Cloudy yellow color with thin off white head. Nice aromas of light citrus and mellow malt. Taste is like a weiss, light and refreshing.

Draft @ Cole’s in Buffalo. Pastel yellow with a small white head. Light yeasty spice/coriander aroma. Lightly sweet pale malt, fair bit of yeast, and hints of orange peel. Average palate. Needs more oomph, and more saturation of the flavours.

Draft at Mr Goodbar in Buffalo, although the tap handle was labeled Brooklyn White Ale. I assume its the same beer. Pours hazy yellow orange with a diminishing white head. Typical aroma of witbier yeast esters, wheat malt, and orange zest. I really like the balance of coriander and orange peel, and this has the right amount of sweetness. The texture was a tad thin for my personal tastes, otherwise this could go from good to great. Still very good and well done, especially for an american example of the style

Mini growler sample from Half Time. Hazy yellow, fairly large head when I poured it. Aroma is spices... orangey and lemony tartness with some wheat notes. Flavor is the same, tart finish. Solid.
