The coffee aroma was strong with a hint of chocolate. Fairly one dimensional smell. The taste was mild coffee with some dark chocolate. There were also some hints of tobacco. The mouthfeel was soft. hopscotch (5507), Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Black ale (mostly clear, brilliant copper when held up to bright light) with a small, tight, beige head. Decent retention. The aroma is a vortex of quality French roast coffee and rich chocolate. Creamy, rich, chocolatey, coffee flavor. Light to medium-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Lightly tangy, espresso finish. MIBRomeo (1965), Wisconsin, USA

Black pour w/ a small tan head. Very nice dark roast coffee and roast malt aroma.. pretty much str8 coffe. Palate was overly thin. Flavor is a bitter coffee almost like drinking the grounds w/ some chocolates. Smells great, but I’d rather sniff it than drink it. 1FastSTi (2575), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 2, 2006 GABF 2006. Listed as "cup of mud" java porter. The beer pours to a pitch black body with a thin off-white head. The aroma is huge. Tons of nice coffee. Wow! The flavor is richly roasted coffee. Noticeable barley components. Tasty. Nice lingering coffee. The palate is medium-full bodied. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 30, 2006 This was really, really tasty for one pint! A bit of a palate killer, but delicious. Lots of rich roasted coffee flavors, great carbonation levels, and a bit of searing acidity. Creamy and roasty all the way through, with chocolate and coffee, like drinking a cup of it cold. tjthresh (1778), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 28, 2006 On tap at the brew pub. Pours dark brown. Mostly opaque. Light brown head and some lace. Lots of Folgers coffe aroma. Coffee and creamer flavor. Restrained hops. Light on the body. Easy to drink. Pretty enjoyable beer, but not good for a night of drinking. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 2, 2006 On Tap: A deep dark brown/black beer with a mahogany reddish tint to it with little to no head. Aroma and flavor mainly of roasted/burnt malts. There is also some serious java/coffee flavors, but I was suprised as there wasn’t much on the nose like I was expecting. This is a slightly thin, but very tasty porter. I agree with phillybeer a lot, it is very thin. But very good. DJMonarch (6878), Northwich, Cheshire, England
