harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA Jul 30, 2006 A great session brown ale. Nice chocolate aroma, that follows through into the flavor, with just a bit of raosty coffee acidity, and mild bit of dark fruitiness. PhillyBeer2112 (2084), Orange Park, Florida, USA Nov 15, 2004 Ruby tinted dark brown. Sweetish caramel aroma and flavor. Hints of chocolate. Dry finish. TAR (2088), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA Oct 21, 2004 cask-conditioned: Hazy purplish ruby. Loose, foamy bubbles. Soft bed of fruity esters yield notes of blackberry and dried plums. Faintly malty and oxidized with dabs of unsweetened chocolate, cane sugar, yeast, and bushy/tangy hops. Loose carbonation. Slippery body. Twang of leather of plums merge with a brushing burst of earthy hops and underlying cocoa grit. Quickly loses body as it breathes. Light acidity accompanies bready malt textures, which bolster the body. Slightly sweet and yeasty finish with notes of pie crust, dried plums, and smoke. Could use more Crystal and hop coraseness to firm-up the slippery body and soggy maltiness, along with more pale malts to highlight the caramel/chocolate flavors. The nose could also stand to be a tad less unclean/yeasty. For a quick pint, though, this’ll do the trick. Volgon (2487), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Oct 11, 2002 On tap GABF ’02: Light grain aroma, amber/orange color with a decent head. Watery mouthfeel and a short sweet aftertaste.
