An order of magnitude worse than the other altbiers I've had - sooo artificially sweet, - where's any bit of possible crispness? German hops? I wanted to like this, and it didn't seem spoiled - a sweet cloying concoction. Sorry. Lubiere (4529), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 14, 2004 Red brown ale with malty nutty nose with some tartness. Roasted malt and nuts come out but there is some tartness which is a bit misplaced. Sharp hops come in the end. Medium body. Rockinout (945), Kent, Ohio, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 9, 2004 Dark bright auburn color with some odd flakey things floating around. Choclatey nose with hints of citrus - fresh smelling. The body is lightly spritzy with notes of chocolate and citrus notes towards the end, lightly bitter. Nice lager, not sure if it's really an alt, tastes like more of a light bock, but a nice mild and tastey beer. redlem (1155), Illinois, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 5, 2004 Dark caramel color with a medium creamy off-white head. An odd mushroom like aroma. The malt taste is not as strong as the aroma. Takes time getting used to. CapFlu (3483), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 1, 2003 (Bottle) Pours a medium, beige head and a deep brown-red body. Nose of roasted chocolate and caramel. Initial fizziness gives way to a quick modelling glue taste than takes the regular path of chocolate. Very enjoyable! austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 18, 2003 Sort of a roasty schwarzbier, and a quality one, at that! Very enjoyable and super-malty. There's even a smoky aroma that goes along with a sourness in the taste. Quite an odd brew, but perhaps true to some German style of yore. Bitter, too, especially up front (it doesn't linger long). Basically, there are LOTS of things going on here, but the really odd ones are the smoke, roastiness and sourness, so to envision this brew, take a schwarzbier and add those three things. Don't know if that many folks would care for this mix. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA
