Commercial Description:
Amber Ale brewed with Wild Maine Blueberries.
An amber ale brewed with all natural ingredients, including real wild blueberries and wild blueberry juice from the State of Maine this beer has a light crisp body and subtle wild blueberry aroma and taste, but is not sweet like many fruit beers. These characteristics have made the beer popular with all age groups, especially young adults and make the beer a popular part of many beer cocktails and mixed beer drinks. For instance, many people enjoy the beer as a part of a “Black and Blue;” an alternative to a “Black and Tan".

Not surprisingly, BluCreek Blueberry Ale smells unmistakingly of blueberries. Dosnt have a typical beer aroma. The beer pours light brown with a purple hue. At first taste I was hooked. Not overpowering as other fruity beers I have had. Very light nice blueberry compliment. Great light-hearted beer.

Bottle from six-pack purchased at Riley’s Wines of the World in downtown Madison, WI. Not surprisingly, BluCreek Blueberry Ale smells of blueberries and sweet wine. It does not have a typical beer aroma at all. The beer pours a purple-tinged light brown with a short-lasting head. There is a remarkable amound of suspended settlement, making it very cloudy. This appearance may scare some people, but I appreciate its unique character. Despite the fact that it is a fruit beer, the flavor is surprisingly like that of a more traditional brew. There is a noticeable hop flavor rare in fruit beers. The small amount of sweetness in the taste seems to come from the blueberries instead of the malt. The flavor is subdued, with just a hint of blueberries, and pleasant. This is a very crisp and fizzy beer, quite satisfying and quite drinkable. I’m generally not a big fan of fruit beer, but I had heard good things about blueberry beer and BluCreek in particular. I was pleasantly surprised by what a normal beer this is in terms of taste, given its ingredients, appearance, and aroma. Essentially, this is a well-made, mild ale with a modicum of tasty blueberry flavor. This beer would go well with a pancake or waffle brunch.

I thought this beer was good for a fruit beer. I had it on tap at the renowned Brazen Head Pub in West Bend, WI. By look only, it looked like a cloudier Miller or maybe a weaker Blue Moon. The blueberry scent was very pleasant, but the flavor was a bit cloying. It tasted too artificial for my tastes. Kind of a bland beer taste...doesn’t bode well with the strong blueberry. I would have another, but it could have been so much better.

Pours copper with a tan head that disappears quickly. Aroma is sharp metallic and medicinal with some blueberry as will as some spritziness. Thin watery body with fizzy carbonation. Very sharp metallic taste with traces of malt smoothness in the background. Finish combines carbonation sharpness, blueberry, spiciness and bits of malt. It would be nice to find a nice light blueberry ale, but this surely isn’t it.

Bottled. Poured a clear, medium orangey-brown with a short-lived cap of off-white head. Nose was rather pleasant... with freshly-picked, lightly-sweetened blueberries and a wheaty/grainy malt backing. Not bad in the flavor department, either... sporting the aforementioned blueberries and a mild, numbing herbal bitterness around the edges. Tacky, rather ugly culmination at the finish... leaving a not-so-good impression. Meh.

Yuck, tastes like a Coors with a splash of blueberry flavoring. Nice amber color with a lot of carbonation. Something unique about how long the bad aftertaste lingers.

On tap at Old Chicago in Peoria, IL. Pours with a one-fingered off-white head that fades quickly but leaves some lace. Clear amber color. Nose is strong blueberry. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Starts sweet with a distinct bleberry presence but not overbearing slight. Finish has ahint of hops. $3.50 for 12oz.

Not much of a blueberry aroma, but I could taste the blueberries. It reminded me of my mother’s blueberry muffins. Yum!
