A musty malt nose, quite a sweet aroma, with a hint of forest fruits. The taste is bitter, the musty, damp malt element is present again, plenty of sweetness, fruity and a touch of caramel. A somewhat dry finish. (Cask - 2007 Peterborough Beer Festival).

Amber color with an off-white head. Rich reddish amber color. Medium body with mild carbonation. A big pale stone fruit flavor with a little herb or mild spice. Almost suggests a bit of melon. Different. Good. Impressive. ALLOVATE (1126), Perth, Australia

It was Friday night and the Anchor was about to hum with patrons. The heat of the day saw me quickly sniff a load of dusty, yeasty notes, old fell fruit and damp, wooden floorboards. Smelt old, musty and somehow full of life, just like the bar. It appeared bright before me; a copper hued brown that sparkled in the light and was donned by a lovely, creamy white head that held out and frosted down the glass. The first sip could not come quickly enough and the flavour was the last thing on my mind. Though it tasted good. It’s smooth, displaying some grandish spices and vinous dark fruits, a belly of dusty malt and a very distinguished bitter/sweet dried fruit edge just on the swallow. It’s faintly medicinal, medium bodied and dusty like tasting a piece of history. A light flavour of figs, wood and deeper malts lingers in the mouth, but hey I just had to keep drinking. Was it the bar, the night or the beer. This was lovely. Cheers to the folk I met. Will be back. DJMonarch (6941), Northwich, Cheshire, England
