Commercial Description:
So named because it had to endure long sea voyages from breweries in England to outposts on the fringes of the British Empire. IPA is a high alcohol, well-hopped brew to enable it to last the voyage and not spoil. 50 IBU's, 15.38 Plato, 6.3% ABV

Grassy nose with a bit of biscuit. Very bitter bordering on vegetative astringency. Needs more back end hopping. Bitter lingering finish.

Nice citrus/floral hop aromas, though served so cold it needed to sit a bit to really get the aroma. Very pale gold color with a lightly ring lacing head. Medium body; moderate carbonation. Flavor seems to be citrus hop. Enough hop that it has a rather harsh impact*. There really seems to be a lot of hop, and this is not the DIPA. I’m sure there’s malt in there, but it is simply overwhelmed. This one is worth going out of the way for. *This was not a reason to lower the palate number; my mouth liked it.

Draft @ Brew Pub- served in a frozen mug with so much ice its hard to see the beer through it. Once the ice melted bit I can see a ale yellow and slighly hazed beer with a white head. Very little hop aroma. Big mouth feel with tons of pine and some grapefruit. Lingers a bit in the finish.

This is a great little brewpub that brews a lot of very good beers. Well, IPA is my favorite beer style and they just f’d this one up. Aroma is potent and earthy. But when I take a swig an immediate off-flavor hits my tongue. The adjectives that come to mind are fishy, seafood, etc... Not something I want to be tasting in an IPA. Was it a dirty glass??? Who knows but I’m not going to try and find out.

Filtered-clear, leathery brown with the dense, fine head characteristic of all of Blue Frog’s beers. Lightly malty (bready) aroma with satsumas. Overpowering hoppiness in flavor - here the hops presence builds up to a rats-nest of oranginess and pine along with a leatheriness/earthiness. Plenty of lingering bitterness throughout the finish, but not overdone. Finishes with more orange amd some husky malt notes. Interesting - quite a different IPA.

I’m an IPA fan and this one was good. Good mouthfeel, light malty initial flavor, and I liked the oily hop finish.

4 ounce sample on tap at the brewpub 12/16/06. Also called "Lupulin Delight" at the brewpub. Grainy, orangey, citrus hop aroma straight up with some grapefruits and classic PNW hops in the aroma. There are also some light pine aromas lightly present. Transparent dark golden body with a nice medium off-white frothy head and attractive lacing. Thick, sticky, somewhat soapy start. Turns a little hoppy with some mild piney and european hops later on. Finishes a bit grainy. Definitely seems like more of a European version of an IPA, despite the PNW aromatics. This beer was poured as the keg kicked, so I am not sure if that had any bearing on the rating. I should definitely re-visit this one.

Tasted at the 9th Annual Bistro IPA Festival (2006). This IPA pours a orange gold color. Small sized white foamy head. Aroma is orange and fruity with a hint of cinnamon. A medium bodied IPA. Malts are fruity, orange and caramel. Hops are grapefruity, floral and herbal. Medium to light bitterness for an IPA. Lots of orange flavors. Good carbonation. Good session IPA. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter
