bhensonb (3005), Woodland, California, USA Jul 29, 2007 Light aroma of toasted malts - darkly toasted malts. Dark brown color that is essentially opaque, except that light gets through at the top edges. Creamy head. Thin to medium body. LIghtly, moderately carbonated. Flavor of dark toasted malt, with undercurrents of coffee and chocolate. Mostly toasted flavor, though. In fact the flavor is the least bit harsh. Not really sweet or burnt though. Just sturdily flavorful. A bit different from many of the type. It is relatively smooth, and the finish is dry. Actual hop bitter seems to be detectable in the long finish. grant (763), Martinez, California, USA Jan 30, 2007 Deep, dark brown with fine, sparse head. Potent aroma of chocolate and woody hops with some vinous aspects. Full, vibrant flavor with balanced sweetness, medium-strong smokiness. Well balanced, creamy finish. A quite good stout. A little too smoky to be optimal for me. jazz88 (2205), San Francisco, California, USA Mar 5, 2003 Tap. Black color with a brown head. Smooth nitro tap. Chocolate and coffee flavors.
