All I can say is that it reminds me of Christmas, or that it is good for cold weather. An abbey ale it is not! But it is flavorful for darkfruits and sugar, but it still falls flat on the palate.

Has a decent head that lasts for a little time. Aroma consists of brown sugar, molasses, caramel and roasted malts. Taste had a nutty caramel flavor with notes of molasses chocolate and brown sugar. Medium bodied and watery texture. ttutony (94), Texas, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 20, 2009 Medium brown in the glass. Not a very powerful aroma, what is there is somewhat nutty and reminiscent of caramel. Very malty flavors. This is an alright beer, but this is more like a nut brown ale than an abbey dubbel in my opinion. poisoneddwarf (218), Rathdrum, Idaho, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Dec 20, 2009 12 oz bottle. Aromas of sugar, cheese, caramel malt. Pours amber with a thin head, average lacing. Taste is a little sweet, ends slightly bitter. Pretty gross, actually. Full-bodied, though. Probably the worst winter beer I’ve ranked so far. Abbey Dubbel, huh? What a joke. taphandle (35), Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Pours amber / orange with an off-white, eggshell head. Definite hops aroma in the nose, but it also smelled slightly sour to me. When tasting, I could definitely see where the hops aroma was coming from - it was just as prominent in the taste. The finish had a bit of citrus quality to it - almost a lemon taste to me. It’s a decent showing - I’d like to try some more abbey dubbels and come back to re-rate this one. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2009 12 oz. bottle- Pours dark red with a good head and great lacing, aroma isn’t much, a little roasted malt. The flavor is nothing spectacular, I taste sugar, malt and a little bitterness. Blue Moon could have done so much better than this, but at least it was better than their Honey Moon. beerfest5 (200), Simsbury, Connecticut, USA

"really?" cause i read the description before i took a sip and saw the words, "abbey ale" on the label, took that sip and said, "really?" then i laughed.
