Appearance: Pours an inky black body with a small, short-lived, khaki-colored head.
Smell: Dark, roasty malts and all, but the bourbon dominates the aroma with sharp, intense notes of vanilla and wood.
Taste: Dark maltiness, tastes of caramel and chocolate, but a bit thinned out by the booze. More vanilla and oak. Moderate sweetness. There’s a definite hotness there, especially on the boozey finish.
Mouthfeel: Just barely medium-bodied. Medium-low carbonation.
Drinkability: Nice start, but the bourbon starts squashing the other stout qualities and it could benefit from a greater heft of body. A little work, a bit of tweaking, and this could be phenomenal. kp (8396), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 25, 2008 Batch #2 bottle: Pours a viscous opaque with a stringy-lacing dark tan head. Sweet dark caramel and chocolate nose has good complex vanilla and oaky bourbon character with great balance. Body starts fairly full and sweet with a nice sticky dark caramel flavor along with some slightly warming oaky bourbon. Pretty smooth and enjoyable. A nice barrel-aged imperial stout, but could be a little fuller.
