Commercial Description:
Dark Hollow blends the miracle of two crafts--brewing and distillation--to create a work greater than the sum of its parts. An Imperial Stout has been aged in charred American oak bourbon barrels still dripping with uncut whiskey. For 100 days the young beer patiently breathes in and out of the wood, gaining complexity, character, and serious attitude. This ale is always bottle conditioned and can be enjoyed immediately upon its release from the brewery...or five years later, when you dust off the last vintage bottle from your cellar to share with good company.

Batch 1 - blank cork - 9.6% ABV

Batch 2 - #2 on cork - 8.9% ABV

Batch 3 - #3 on cork - 10% ABV

Batch 4 - #4 on cork - 9.5% ABV

Batch 5 - #5 on cork - 10% ABV

Bottle from Dkachur. Finally I get to try one of my personal white whales. Dark brown pour. Big tan head. Tons of bourbon up front. I mean LOADS of delicous bourbon! Oak, vanilla, and some great roast. Flavor is heavy on the bourbon wtih tons of vanilla, oak, toffee and roast. A really nice beer. Finishes a bit hot, but in a good way for the most part. I hope I get another bottle at some point. Very very good.

batch #2, bottle. Full mouthfeel. Light body but coats the tongue like oil. Very smooth and very complex without being overwhelming. Excellent.

Nitro at Blue Mountain; very nice looking pour. Had the cascading effect with a nice creamy head. Aroma of choocolate, oak, roasted malt, oats with only a slight hint of alcohol/bourbon. Flavor of semisweet chocolate, oak, vanilla, cookie dough and touches of alcohol and bourbon. Smooth flavor, with the alcohol extremely well hidden. Really enjoyed the sweetness and the chocolate in this one; glad I was able to try this before leaving Virginia.

750 ml bottle courtesy of dakchur. Pours an opaque black color with a small tan head. The aroma is strong with bourbon, dark fruits and a touch of coffee. The taste is dominated by the whiskey, supporting flavors are complex with coffee, plums, dates, spices and black walnuts. The mouthfeel is smooth, full and satisfying. The finish is medium in duration with lingering bourbon. Overall: This brew really hit the spot, it is rich and inviting. Thanks Dan.

April 2008 750 bomber courtesy of Maniac. Opague almost black with small off-white head. Aroma of oak, some bourbon, chocolate and roast malts and some alchohol. Earthy oak flavor with some bitterness with vanilla, bourbon, chocolate, roast malts. Sweetness is nicely ballanced by moderate hop bitterness and some woody astringency. Bourbon and bitterness linger into the finish. Nice full mouthfeel. Fantastic beer.
