May 1, 2008 12 oz. bottle courtesy of alexanderj. Color is a nice, dark leather. Small, light brown head that quickly dissapates. Sweet aroma, some brown sugar. Initial flavor is also a bit sweet, with hints of caramel. Finish is bready malt that turns to roastiness. Very nice beer.

Apr 26, 2008 Intriguing aroma of jelly beans, raisins, brown sugar, and marshmallows. Dark brown color, medium tan head, good lacing. Tastes of licorice, menthol, and hard candy. Bittersweet finish resembles horehound, but not quite. Thinnish mouthfeel which I prefer for this style. It missed the mark on taste for me, but I’m sure it will appeal to a lot of people. Nice crafting!

Apr 25, 2008 Updated: Mar 22, 2009This resembles a strong stout more than an abbey dubbel. My more recent sample smells of dark malt and hops with a slight vinous note. The yeast signature is much less present. Evil 8 pours like a stout with medium hop lace and light carbonation. Dark and caramel malt dance with the Goldings hops in good balance. The finish is grainy, and slightly tart.

Mar 28, 2008 Poured a hazy dark red amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was doughy with notes of white Elmers glue. Dark fruity notes and some cardboard. Roasted malt and a mild bitter finish. Semi-dry.

Mar 20, 2008 12 oz bottle best by 12/2008. Very dark brown with a light brown head that disappears pretty quickly. Nose is pretty nice, roasty caramel and chocolate, plummy and yeasty. Roasty, almost burnt maltiness - OK, maybe a bit burnt, actually - lightly fruity and yeasty. Some bitter chocolate appears late, and the fruit grows as it warms, becoming mildly vinous. A bit thin. Dry, almost peppery finish. Not too shabby!

Mar 17, 2008 pours black with a big tan head .... malty fruit aroma ... figs and dried fruit .... coffee ground start ... spices, bust mostly bitter coffee ... almost like a thin Imperial stout ... dark over ripe fruits in the taste .... nice mouthfeel and a nice bitter finish ..... I like this but its not what I expected .... new local brew (to me at least) ... if it comes more readily available it will definitely go into my rotation
