bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Jul 10, 2009 Pours almost prune into the glass, with a nice soapy eggshell head that leaves thick lace. The nose has lots of fruity sours with some toast and malt. The flavors are sour (very reminiscent of biting down on a fresh pine needle... that initial sour bite), toasted malt and finishing with a nice lingering bitter. The mouthfeel is slick and easy (due to the many esters at work). A decent old ale. Schroppfy (1810), Ohio, USA Feb 25, 2009 Nice spicing, kind of sour, definite unusual breadiness. I like that it wasn’t off the scale in alcohol - barely noticeable. Aroma is unidimensionally pine, heavy acrid roast. Good. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Feb 23, 2009 Bottle thanks to Butters. Dark orangish-brown finger of creamy tan head. Some sweet malt, fruit aroma. Slightly tart apples and cherries. Taste is more tartness, some more fruit, caramels, not sure if this is infected. beerbill (1917), Laurel, New York, USA Jan 28, 2009 12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with dkachur. Pours a clear deep ruby with a moderate off-white head that fades to a film midway and lingers until the end. The lacing on this beer is exquisite and is probably the finest example I have come across in a long time. The aroma is on the weak side with some light malt along a bit of brown sugar. The flavor is malt up front followed by some sweet herbal flavors halfway and a wash of bitter hops at the finish. The hops quickly lose any flavor and I am left with a dry, bitter aftertaste with virtually no flavor. There are elements of this beer that I like very much, and other aspects I am so-so about. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jan 22, 2009 (Sample Date: 11/1/2008 Source:Other) Caramel with a touch of roastyness in aroma. Clear dark amber brown with small fine tan head. Caramel and roast with dark fruits in flavor. Medium to full body and mouthfeel. Sweet finish with moderate bitterness to balance. True to Old Ale style. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jan 16, 2009 Bottle on 11/01/2008 courtesy of dkachur. Clear deep ruby body with a medium creamy light brown head. Sweet roasty and lightly chocolate aroma, with faint fruity hints. Roasty flavor with fruity hints in the background and a nice bitterness lingering behind. Medium body with moderate carbonation.
Braudog (3732), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jan 11, 2009 Bought a 6-pack of this at the brewpub. It’s a very dark midnight red brew, with just a thin top. Roasted caramel aroma, rich and full of roasted malt, caramel too. Good winter warmer. (#3490, 11/2008)
