Commercial Description:
Don’t look to this beer for a fake pink hue and syrupy taste... our new Strawberry Weiss is the real deal. Strawberries acquired locally from our neighbors at AM FOG and hand picked at Critzer Family Farm in Afton and Crozet’s Chiles Orchard were added to this brew during primary fermentation. The faint kiss of fruit the strawberries lend to this otherwise-traditional Hefeweizen beer is a subtle complement to the spicy flavors created by the Bavarian yeast strain. 19 IBUs.

On tap at the brewpub on 08/15/2008. Hazy orange body with a small frothy off-white head. Sweet banana aroma with very light strawberry hints. Sweet light banana flavor with sweet citrus and light strawberry hints. Medium light body with moderate carbonation.

A hazy orangish-amber... creamy white head recedes to a nice sheeting and sticky lip of lace. Nice, softer strawberry aromas... it’s a nice balance with the wheaty scents. Again, a softer strawberry note, but it is certainly there. Wheat and a slightly tart strawberry are on the forefront, but a hoppiness adding a touch of bitterness. Rather rich without being too full bodied and heavy. A nice, shimmery carbonation. Maybe a little weighty feeling (though it’s only 5.3 ABV, which is different than listed) for me to enjoy it more pleasantly as a session brew... a good fruit-infused beer, though, and one that I would happily have again - minus the slice of lemon. ;)

ON tap at Blue Mountain; ruddy yellow in color, looked a lot like the weizenbock they had on tap. Aroma had a nice strawberry component that blended well with wheat and floral hints. Flavor was not dominated by the strawberry in it, rather it was just one of the components. Other flavors included banana, yeast. Found the finish a bit harsh, but it was still refreshing.

Draft at the brewery. Hazy gold color with white head. Nose of lemon and wheat, with some mild grassy hops in the background along with faint yeastiness. Flavor is straightforward lemony wheat, slightly tart, with some strawberry flavor coming through in the finish. Zesty carbonation. Good stuff, especially on a hot day on the patio, but it was decidedly lacking in strawberry aroma and flavor.

7/20/08 - Draft sample at brewery. Pours hazy yellow with white head. Nose is slight berry and banana. Taste is strawberry undertones with wheaty malt and mild banana and clove, some citrus. Nice, but standard.

Draft at the brewery. Hazy orange color with one finger head and good lacing. Nice slightly bitter wheat aroma that showcases the strawberries. Taste is strawberry up front followed by citrus, wheat and slight hoppiness. Medium bodied.
