Pours a deep murky coppery smokey brown - woody amber highlights and a fluffy yet diminishing off beige head. Aroma is upfront with some fusel alcohols, weird peppery spices, slight burning wire, light smokey matchstick and some burnt rubber phenols- meh. Flavor is a bit more doughy and flavorful at first- ok wheat malts, light toast and some nuttiness, ok sweetness but as it warms more weird harsh phenols come through and create an off taste- and a lingering harsh finish. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 13, 2009 From a growler filled at Bellport Cold Beer & Soda. Pours a muddy dark brown with a thin off-white head that faded after the first two sips. Pleasant aroma of malt, spice and a touch of chocolate and banana. The flavor is very similar, albeit a touch muted. Light bodied and very easy to drink. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Feb 2, 2009 Draft at Barcade. Plenty of bubblegum in the aroma. Flavor has a decent amount of chocolate to go along with a pillow soft carbonation. Body is on the thin side with some marshmallow. goldtwins (4080), Nesconset, New York, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 31, 2009 Tap @ Blue Point. Poured a hazed light brown with an off-white head. The aroma had some spicy phenols and a light fruity (citrus and banana) component. The flavor was a little bland. Some chocolate with a touch of fruit and spice. Bitter finish on a light body. notalush (2657), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 10, 2009 Thanks to PilsnerPeter for cluing me in to this beer - Blue Point barely ever makes a new beer, and when I heard of its existence, I ran down to the brewery to get a growler - this is one murky, turbid, dark amber beer - fizzy carbonation that fails to produce much of a head - the aroma is mostly clove, but underneath that is some really off-putting phenolic character that smells like burnt tire rubber - the body is very light, with tingly carbonation - moderate wheaty tang and grainy flavors - strong clove and moderate cocoa, with a little bit of hard water/mineral quality - those tire rubber phenols show up in the finish - they are mild, but present enough to make the beer far less enjoyable - Blue Point really needs to work on this band aid/rubber/unwanted phenols issue in their beer - it has been a problem for years, and apparently they don’t seem to give a crap - now I have a whole growler of liquid tire fire to drink. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 9, 2009 Tap at Barcade: Muddy brown pour with an off-white ring of head. The aroma displays some clove, a touch of banana and some mineral character. Crisp light body. Some refreshing wheat notes, gritty cocoa, and tons of clove phenols. Pretty decent interpretation of the style.
