dangelicom1 (17), Shelton, Connecticut, USA Aug 25, 2008 This is a very nice IPA from what i consider one of the breakout breweries in my area. We sell a ton of it at the liquor store and i think it is the best that i have tasted from blue point. It has a fruity, complex hop flavor that is enjoyable for summer or fall. It has a very clean taste to it. clingman71 (239), Centerville, Ohio, USA Aug 24, 2008 Draft. pale and slightly cloudy/hazy. Pretty slight hop aroma, flavor abut the same. Not a bad beer, but pretty weak for an IPA. Would make a good summer lawn mowing brew. jake65 (1657), Williston, North Dakota, USA Aug 24, 2008 Bottle: Clear golden pour with a smaller white head. Nose is citrus and caramel with a nice balance and decent intensity. Taste is up front and flavorful with sweetness and caramel. Lingering floral hops, but a bit grassey. Still, nice. Thanks Matt. pinkzambia (986), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 23, 2008 Bottle: Clear, dark gold color with a small white head. Heavy hop aroma of grass and pine needles. Nice bitter flavor full of earthiness like grass, weeds and a little grapefruit rind. Overall, a pretty solid IPA. Definitely the best one in Long Island. BuckeyeBoy (1635), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 23, 2008 Bottle Pours out clear amber topped with white head. Aroma of rich floral hops. A very nice tast of citrus hops and licurish. Another tasty brew provided by my man Pinkzambia. kennydiaz (182), staten island, New York, USA Aug 23, 2008 A NICE HOPPY BEER A LITTLE BITTER. DEFINITELY WORTH A TRY HAS A LITTLE BITTER AFTERTASTE. brewandbbq (269), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Aug 22, 2008 Bonus bottle from KpLynch..Thanks bro!
Pours dark gold with a heavy chill haze, and a half-inch head of white foam.
Retention is moderate and a few streaks of lacework appear for the duration.
Aromatics are a blend of biscuity malt, pine sap, citrus fruit, and pineapple skin.
Not incredibly pungent or floral, but square on and crisp for a standard IPA.
Medium bodied, drying and minerally crisp.
Dried citrus fruits and spruce on the pallet. Some lightly toasted malt follows through and a smidge of warming alcohol.
Drying and firmly bitter with a chaulky nod.
Finishes with pineapple skins, biscuit malt, and mild grapefruit with apricots.
Tasty enough, and this ones seeming pretty fresh. I’d have another one!
yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Aug 17, 2008 Sampled at the Flour City Brewers’ Fest 2008. Blue Point Hoptical Illusion is a slightly sparkling golden ale with a dense white head that exhibits good retention. The aroma is spicy, fruity and grassy. It is medium bodied and smooth with a crisp finish. The flavor balance is good. It tastes a bit grainy and maybe slightly phebolic. Not bad.
