KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Sep 1, 2009 Draught at the New York Wine and Culinary Center. Medium copper color. Big grapefruit nose; frgrant hops. Lots of fruit with enough nice malt in the background. Very fruity flavor--mostly tropical, sweet and cloying with a bitter finish. Too sweet and fruity for me, and not very well integrated, though the hop character is original. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Sep 1, 2009 12oz - No real nose for an IPA. I really didn’t think much of this on the first sip. Definitely an earthy palate, some sweetness that was undesirable. It grew on me, with no particular merit in any one area. It’s no threat for best in the style, but I’d get it again. ladnewton (200), London, Greater London, England Aug 30, 2009 Draught, Rattle & Hum, 28 July 2009 Clear gold with thick foamy head. Burst of grapefruit aroma then rich grapefruit and grassy hoppiness with slight tangerine notes. Dry finish with bitterness on the tongue as the astringency dissipates. A good quenching Ipa, even at 6.3% ABV Derek881 (489), Frederick, Maryland, USA Aug 29, 2009 Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. A mostly clear amber-orange color with an average-sized, foamy-creamy white head with modest retention and decent cling. Earthy and grainy hops aroma with some citrus tones, spices, and a bit of yeast. The beer has a bitter grainy taste with a bit of sourness and a touch of citrus or maybe lemon. Slightly wetter than expected with an average mouthfeel and good liveliness and carbonation; dryer at the finish. oteyj (716), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Aug 29, 2009 Clear amber pour with high carbonation and a one finger large-celled white head that leaves moderate to minimal lacing. Aroma is caramel biscuity with an odd yeasty citrus profile. A bit of soap in the nose near the end. Flavor is mild and astringent with some resinous citrus and adjunct. Chemical and soapy with a mildly bitter finish. Palate is thin and a bit acidic that finishes semi-dry. Not impressed. ksurkin (355), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Aug 28, 2009 12oz bottle from total wine in norfolk. pours a clear, golden orange with a thin, white head and solid lacing. aroma is very nice with sweet, floral hop notes, grapefruit, a touch of pine, and light, sweet yeasty notes. flavor is quite good with grapefruit and orange hop notes, a touch of pine, and the slightest balance of caramel malts. palate is smooth, medium bodied, and nicely carbonated. overall, a solid drinking IPA. hopheadfett (50), Oak Ridge, New Jersey, USA Aug 25, 2009 Pours copper with a small white head, a bit of yeast, don’t remember if there was lace. Nose is yeast, big malt, citrus and pine hops. Taste is big malt, and minor hop finish. Didn’t expect this much malt in an IPA, that wasn’t classified as a belgian ipa. Medium bodied, normal carbonation, smooth texture. Quite sessionable btw. jasonp (1504), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA Aug 23, 2009 Pours a classic copper with a white head, unfiltered with some floaties in there - which I don’t mind. Pleasant floral/grapefruit hop nose of moderate intensity. Flavor has notes of grapefruit/citrus, orange, light pine, light base malt and minimal caramel - which is why I think the flavor is holding up well on this bottle that has been in my fridge since December. Well-balanced with ample yet smooth bitterness. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and and moderate carbonation. Solid IPA.
