mnstorm99 (26), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Mar 1, 2007 Nice aroma, good head that lasted throughout. Nothing special here just a good solid IPA. Good Citrus hop flavor. michael-pollack (2601), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 24, 2007 Firkin: Aroma of floral hops and black pepper. Poured a cloudy copper/amber with a small white head that diminished quickly. Small lacing. Flavor of hops! Unbalanced toward hops. Notes of grapefruit, resin, and sneakers. Bitter finish. Light to medium body. Soft carbonation. Hotspur2001 (43), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 22, 2007 Decent attempt at an IPA. Nothing exciting about it though. Crisp, hoppy, and bitter. Wouldn’t go out of my way for it. 2beerguys (299), North Shore, Massachusetts, USA Feb 14, 2007 Hoptical Illusion is very straightforward. No slight of hand, as the hops jump out in the aroma, and don’t disappoint in the taste. It pours a cloudy light yellow color and settles a medium amber with an off-white, fizzy head. Clear body under a fully diminishing head. Aroma is of cinammon, with flowery, grassy hops, and a strong presence of sweet hops. Initial taste is moderately bitter, simmering down to a light bitter finish with a short duration. Thin bodied, it has a dry texture for a nice, crisp finish.
Reviewed in November, 2006. VikingHammer (362), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA Feb 10, 2007 Updated: Feb 15, 2007Pours a dark golden color with a slightly off white head. Aroma of grapefruits and pine. Full of hops. A great IPA. Willin8 (55), Massapequa, New York, USA Feb 10, 2007 [Bottle, February 2007] Orange/ Yellow pour. Aroma is pine and moss. Flavor is pine and potpourri. Exceptionally bitter and crisp mouthfeel. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Jan 28, 2007 12oz Bottle: Honeyish deep golden pour with an off-white one-finger head. Very aromatic. Lemon citrus, orangey, sweet tangerine and only a hint of pale malt. The flavor is a lot more bitter than the aroma suggests. Seems harsh and bitter, more grapefruity. Lacks malt bite in my opinion. Loads of bittering hops, with nothing to hold up the body. Long, piney, bitter rind-like finish. Not so balanced. taffurs888 (121), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 28, 2007 Opposite end of the spectrum of a Two Hearted, where as the two hearted is somewhat bitter, this was a sweeter IPA. The first half of the glass tasted brilliant, but lagged after the class was hall full. Would drink again, draft only though.
