pours lighter amber with dense white head. Nice pine, slightly citrus hop aroma. Hops bite from the very first sip, carbonation enhances the bitterness. Malt is in the background but it’s all about the hops here.. As the beer warms, there is a bit more balance. Not overly bitter. Palate is not so much as full as it is prickley.

This is one dam good, super hopped up, ass kicking swill, that I will rink endlessly in the next few weeks! Smells and tastes like a pine forest.

Not terribly impressed by this IPA. Run of the mill for me. fairly nice hops, not getting too much of the malt though. Citrus undertones.

bottle 12 oz. Clear dark golden w good off white head that fell fairly quickly, good lace. Aroma is nice, fresh, floral cascade type hops & moderate malt. Flavor is the fresh, floral, spicey hops balanced nicely w the lt/med roast malt, very clean tasting. Nice moderately bitter finish. This is a very good lower half of med bodied IPA. Thanks desurfer for the recomendation,

Hoptical Illusion is very straightforward. No slight of hand, as the hops jump out in the aroma, and don’t disappoint in the taste. It pours a cloudy light yellow color and settles a medium amber with an off-white, fizzy head. Clear body under a fully diminishing head. Aroma is of cinammon, with flowery, grassy hops, and a strong presence of sweet hops. Initial taste is moderately bitter, simmering down to a light bitter finish with a short duration. Thin bodied, it has a dry texture for a nice, crisp finish. Reviewed in November, 2006.

On tap at the brewery on in Patchogue. I dont think this beer lives up to its reputation as being the flagship brew. Pours a copper color, very hoppy as the name suggets with a floral and citrusy aroma. However taste was absent and the bitterness didnt have anything to balance it out. Very one dimensional beer. Not bad but I was expecting more.

A decent IPA, not unlike many others that are popping up like crazy. Pours a hazy orange to amber with little head, but some thin lacing. Decent hop aroma, with some citrus and earthy hops. Grapefruit flavor with pleasant bitter finish. Flavor of bitter citrus peal lingers pleasantly. Decent session beer, but nothing extrodinary.

bottle, sampled 1/13/08. Pours a hazy pale orange, some visible sediment, a decent amount of active carbonation creates a decent size head. Aromas of citrus bitterness, some resinous smells, and some lightly sweet notes. Flavor is all hops- sharp citrus notes, earthy pine, and slick sharp bitterness. Light toasted pale malts in the background. A bit slick and oily on the finish. Decent IPA, but would be helped by some more depth.
