Pours a clear reddish amber with a large frothy off white head. Boozy aroma especially for a beer thats only 6.2%, vegtable notes, grains, caramel and old hops. Flavor thankfully is a step up from the aroma with notes of caramel, hops, and grainy bread. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a bitter finish. Solid IPA but don’t go knocking down any doors to get this one but also don’t pass it up if someone offers you one. kevd193213 (498), Hope Valley, Rhode Island, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours a translucent golden orange with an abundant white head. The aroma is of nice, crisp hops with various vegetables and a well-rounded caramel sweetness. The flavour has some nice bread notes with a good amount of hopsy bitterness. Vegetable notes are subtle, but noticeable from the initial tasting to the finish. Caramel flavour shows up during the initial taste, but becomes overwhelmed by the hops soon after. Fruits, such as pear and apple, are a nice note throughout the entire experience. The finish is nice and dry with a crisp, hopsy bite. This is tasteful and refreshing. joe1510 (501), Illinois, USA

Poured a clear dark golden with very small articles that actually look like pulp. The particles make the beer look a little cloudy as they settle. A half finger creamy white head sits up top and fades to a solid top coat.
The smell is of caramel malts along with a grassy/musty hoppiness. Reminds me of Dogfish’s 60 Minute. It smells good and it makes my mouth water but unfortunately the smell is weak.
The flavor is pretty good. A lively hop bite at mid palate that slides effortlessly into a lingering bitterness. A faint maltiness starts things off. This is followed by the grassy hops. After a little warming unsweetened grapefruit comes out as well. The hops get more complex while this one warms. The caramel malt strengthens a little bit as well to give a good backbone. Nicely balanced.
Mouthfeel is quite nice. Good carbonation is prickly on the tongue and the body medium but slightly leaning toward the lighter side.
I could drink a lot of these in a sitting. The bitterness leaves you wanting another drink right after the swallow. The body keeps it easy going down and refreshing.
Overall Hoptical Illusion is a very nicely crafted IPA. Nothing spectacular but nice and solid. Could be an everyday drinker if I could get it around here.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 5, 2008 A decent IPA, not unlike many others that are popping up like crazy.
Pours a hazy orange to amber with little head, but some thin lacing. Decent hop aroma, with some citrus and earthy hops. Grapefruit flavor with pleasant bitter finish. Flavor of bitter citrus peal lingers pleasantly.
Decent session beer, but nothing extrodinary. hoooraybeer (48), Cranford, New Jersey, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 21, 2008 Smells strongly of sour zesty hops. Taste is similar to smell, strong hops flavor, not much else. A little watery, almost no detectable malts. Not bad, very light and refreshing.
