Commercial Description:
Our Imperial or Double IPA is a brew not to be taken lightly. Crafted in small batches from the finest European malts and American hops. A huge earthy hop aroma is followed by a pleasant caramel sweetness. Four hop varieties round out this perfectly balanced beer that is sure to warm your soul and for that we offer No Apologies!

Golden-amber color with a small-med head. Aroma is sweet and hoppy - lots of grapefruit sweetness and some floral notes. Taste is sweet and grapefruit-florally hopped, but its a bit messy. I was really disappointed, especially since I consider Hoptical Illusion to be a pretty good IPA. Just missed the mark.

Tap @ Blue Point Brewery, Patchogue, NY. Pours a golden orange color with a small, quickly-dissipating white head. The aroma is strong hops with floral notes thrown in as well. The taste is strong hop up front with some malt and floral characteristics on the back end. This is a great Imperial IPA from Blue Point, a largely hit-or-miss brewery.

Growler courtesy of Sachin @ 5 Points Bottle. Very nice IIPA. Drinkable, yet alcohol presence hits you after a few sips. Caramel and dough in the afterteaste, w/ a huge hop presence.

Draught: Sweet aroma. Smells of floral hops and berries. Poured amber in color with a tiny white head. No lacing. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is bitter. Tastes very hoppy, with a hint of pepper and a big malt backbone. Light to medium texture. Oily body. Average carbonation. Dry bitter finish. Overall, a decent IIPA.

(cask @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Dark copper color with a soapy tan head. Aroma is lots of hops, malts, butter, caramel, and alcohol. Flavor is very strong and loaded with malts and hops with a strong alcohol presence and a bitter and very harsh finish. Tastes more like a barley wine than a double IPA.

Cask Conditioned at Mahars. Poured copper with small head. Aroma alcohol and hops. Flavor very strong alcohol and obnoxious hops, not great.

12 oz handbottled from a Myst Swap 2.0 (thanks Ty!). Pours a hazy copper with an average sized beige head. Nose is floral and spicy. Taste is mostly orange, pineapple and grapefruit hops. Finish is bittersweet. Quite a bit of Diacetyl. Carbonation is moderate, body is a bit light for an IIPA.

On tap at Bocktown. This beer was trying too hard to be a DIPA. Aroma of toffe and malt. Taste was more sweet than anything with a little hop bite in the end. Strong alcohol burn and little else in the aftertaste. They need to go back to the drawing board with this one.
