Commercial Description:
Blue Point Brewing's Oatmeal Stout is a rich, deeply malted extravaganza of a beer. The Oatmeal Stout is a dark beer drinker's dream come true. The Oatmeal Stout is made from Pale, Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Malts. In addition Flaked Oats are added to the mix and the outcome is an uncommonly silky brew. This legendary dark beer is full flavored and rich tasting. A romantically delicious microbrew to share with someone special.

Cask at Pizza Plant on Transit Rd., Williamsville. Pours a very dark brown/black with an average size lasting tan head. For a stout on cask it looks perfect. Very nice aroma of cocoa, hops, roasted malt and spices. Similar to aroma, flavour has a great blend of coffee, cocoa, hops and roasted malt. Body is light and creamy with a lightly bitter aftertaste -- as it warms up it gets more bitter. A huge surprise, this is a fantastic beer and it’s wonderful on cask.

Draught (cask) At Pizza Plant on Transit Rd, Williamsville, NY Poured dark brown, almost black, with an incredibly long-lasting darkish tan creamy head. Initial aroma of bitter chocolate and sour wine, then raisins and *lots* of dry hops, even some coriander (bit like a very dark Leffe Brune). The flavour is nicely balanced between dark roast malt and strong dry hops, with coffee, milk chocolate - a slightly bitter, dry finish. Mouthfeel is the achilles heel - barely medium bodied, although that may be in part down to the hand-pull - a bit salty too. Call it a porter and I’m over the moon - as an oatmeal stout it’s not quite all it could be, but very very nice indeed.

Cask at Pizza Plant on Transit, Williamsville. Very nice looking dark brown/black beer with a medium tan head with tiny bubbles. Pleant roasty aroma with notes of chocolate and grains. Simialr flavor, body was fairly dry and of course a touch flat. Nice beer, I’d like to compare to a non-cask version.

Cask conditioned at Mahar’s in Albany. Very underwhelming oatmeal stout. Didn’t have that meal in a glass feel to it, but it was still very tasty and enjoyable.

Sealed growler tasting compliments of goldtwins. Pours dark brown with a small amount of ruby highlights and a big tan head. A roasty, coffee aroma. Highly carbonated (maybe a little much so), but still thick on the palate. Lots of roasted malt and coffee in flavor. Oatmeal gives it a nice smoothness. Pretty nice brew!

Sealed growler. Super hazy dark brown pour. Roasty bitter coffee aroma. Roasty malt flavors dominate, and more coffee and some small smattering of caramel, but not very sweet. Harshly carbonated for an oatmeal stout. I enjoyed the tastes of this beer, but it wasnt a very good representative of an oatmeal stout.

Sampled from brewery sealed growler: Pours a thick, dark, nearly opaque with a puffy, thinly-lacing tan head. Aroma is dry, roasty and has some coffee presence with a touch of earthy caramel. Body starts smooth, but thin and dry-roasty with hints of caramel chocolate flavor. Not sweet or creamy enough for an oatmeal stout.

Cask conditioned at The Ginger Man, New York. Black in colour, cask-type head. Licorice and tidbits, as well as chocolate in the aroma. Light bodied, very yummy. Still subtle flavours; dried fruits, licorice with a slight sour-ish undertone. Bit oxidized I’d say. Long flavour.
