Blue Point Brewing's Oatmeal Stout is a rich, deeply malted extravaganza of a beer. The Oatmeal Stout is a dark beer drinker's dream come true. The Oatmeal Stout is made from Pale, Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Malts. In addition Flaked Oats are added to the mix and the outcome is an uncommonly silky brew. This legendary dark beer is full flavored and rich tasting. A romantically delicious microbrew to share with someone special.

black, thin tan head, big coffee and roasted malt aroma, dry malt flavor, touch of roasted, very dry, lots of bitterness in the finish, a hint of malt bitterness but not too much, needs more character,

Sampled from brewery sealed growler: Pours a thick, dark, nearly opaque with a puffy, thinly-lacing tan head. Aroma is dry, roasty and has some coffee presence with a touch of earthy caramel. Body starts smooth, but thin and dry-roasty with hints of caramel chocolate flavor. Not sweet or creamy enough for an oatmeal stout.

My Bottom Line:
Creamy chocolate spreads onto the coffee roastiness, as oatmeal adds some crunch and chewiness. A very good Stout from this fine Long Island brewery.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the opaque blackness.
-The low hoppiness is appropriate, letting the glorious malts show themselves.
-The cask mouthfeel suits this beer perfectly, ensuring maximum drinkability.

On cask at Mahar’s, in Albany.

Pours dark copper with a tan head. Smells of chocolate, roasted malt. Tastes of roasted malt, some peppery hints, spicy.

Jess’s favourite. On tap at the brewery. Dark black beer with a thick off-white head. Sweet chocolatey aroma, some root beer herbal character as well. Flavour is quite tasty, chicory, chocolate with a creamy oatmealy character as well. Long roasty finish. Light fruitiness as well. A solid and tasty beer.

On tap - David Copperfields NYC. Almost black beer with some head but little lacing. Appetizing licquorice aroma. Pleasant typical oatmeal stout taste, however a little thin. (I didn't know it was only 4.5% at the time of drinking which would explain its lack of substance). Nevertheless a very drinkable beer.

Tap at brewery. Poured black with a small tan head. Aroma and flavor of roasted malt, black cofee, and light notes of chocolate. Mouthfeel is more crisp and less smooth than I would expect from oatmeal.
