Tap. Poured amber with nice white head and major lacing. Aroma was grainy, a bit earthy. Flavor was clean grain, little bit ’o malt. Easy drinking, brewery fresh beer...nice.

Draft. Pours amber orange with a thin head. Malty aroma with rye, light spice and a hint of hops. The flavor has a good balance of spicy rye notes and hops. Decent.

A reddish amber ale with a thick off white head. A nutty aroma, sweet and floral resinous hops. In mouth, a nutty malt with good c-hops, a bit oily, medium bodied. On tap at Blue Tusk, July 31 2009.

Draught at my local watering hole. Pours copper with a tan head. Smells of rye, some pine, some peppery hints. Taste balances the rye and bitter hops nicely with a spicy bite on the finish.

draft at Bobbique. Damn my notes! All I wrote was "sweet, hoppy - lovely." I also remember a coppery color, nice earthy arouma, citrusy and hoppy, dry taste. Good brew!

Bottle. Copper pour with persisting head. Aroma is earthy, piney, and floral. Tastes of cheddar, rye (really?), toffee, and some citrus. Pleasant mouthfeel. Think pale ale with a twist. Enjoyable.

Blah....I usually love rye beers but for some reason I really didn’t enjoy this. Aroma was decent. There was a toasted malt flavor that was different, but nice. Pour was a dark amber with a thick light tan head with a few rising bubbles. Taste was very toasty and burnt. It was like burnt caramel with a sweet aftertaste. There wasn’t enough carbonation for me and it was too sweet to be enjoyable. Nice try, though.

Pours light amber into the glass, with a great 3-finger eggshell head that retains a nice cap, leaving chunky suds lacing. The aromas contain sourdough and light rye notes. Upfront, this has a caramel malt infused with sourdough notes and pale malts. Starting with the mid-palate, rye notes do show up nicely, and continue so toward the finish, which culminates with nice floral notes. The mouthfeel is a little lighter and creamier than I would’ve expected, but the body is medium-light and somewhat substantive. All-in-all, it’s not the most complex beer I’ve ever tried, but the rye notes on this brew are much more present than most rye offerings. A nicely quaffable brew here.
