On tap at the Golden Rail. Pours a deep dark black with a thick tan head. Nice roast, with just a hint of cherry. Light body and a bit sweet. Light hint of grain and metal. Finishes with a nice long bitterness. Not much cherry going on, and it’s barely noticeable on the nose, and not present anywhere else. Otherwise an ok stout though.

Tap. Heavy malt aromas of toasted and coffee, moderate hop note of resin, light earth and cheese for the yeast, with hints of dried cherry and charcoal. Head is average sized, creamy, light brown, with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is clear dark brown with a red tint. Flavor starts lightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic, moderately bitter and a bit sour. Palate is medium to full, creamy, has a soft carbonation and finishes lightly astringent and sticky. An excellent and complex Imperial Stout, tasty from start to finish.

On tap at Capital Ale House - Downtown on 05/05/2009. Dark black body with ruby highlights and a medium creamy light brown head. Sour cherry, molassas, roast, and rum soaked fruit aroma. Roast, chocolate, sour cherry and faint caramel flavor. Medium body with moderately low carbonation.

On Tap at the Blind Tiger Ale House NYC: almost black color with a tiny cream head on top. Nice sour - short kicking - cherry taste with a bit sour edge. Medium lasting. Nice one!

On tap at the Ginger Man. Pours black with a hint of red and a thin white head. Tart cherry aroma with hints of chocolate. tatse deviates from the aroma and is a huge thick bodied roasted grain, chocolate malt stout. slightly bitter and smooth with hints of the tart cherry, but really overpowering roasty stout. Awesome.

Poured an almost black color with a tan head. Aroma was nice sweet chocolate, some burntness to it, and sour cherries. Flavor had some nice sour cherry notes to it, but not overwhelming or extract like. deep roastedness and some sweet chocolate notes make up the rest of the surprisingly good stout.

Growler: This poured black in color with a moderate brown head that fades on the quick side. The nose gave off aromas of bitter chocolate, coffee and a sourness that had more of a lactic edge than cherry. In the mouth it was medium-bodied, with a round and supple midpalate that gave way to some bitter dryness on the finish that showed off bitter chocolate and coffee grounds. While this is not thick and syrupy like many imperial stouts, I don’t find much sourness or really any cherry in it. That said it was a smooth and somewhat typical imperial stout it just didn’t have an interesting edge like I assumed it would based on the title.

Draught at the Ginger Man, NYC. Murky dark brown beer, beige head, fine lacing. Nice sour cherry palate blends in well with a charcaol stout base.Nice, but not outstanding.
