On tap and labeled ’Sour Cherry Stout’. Poured a dark, dark brown color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of roast, chocolate, caramel, smoke, and some dark cherries. Tastes of dark fruits (cherries), roast, and chocolate. Medium alcohol finish. Lacing left on the glass.

Pint at the Drafting Room Spring House. Deep burgundy body with a receding creamy rufous tan head. Interesting aroma like blackberry, currants, and chocolate, even though I know better. Very distinct flavor blends chocolate and black cherry, plus a vinous fruit wine quality and a soft edge of roast. Medium sweet and moderately tart. A very enjoyable and solid fruit beer.

Hand Bottled: Black in color, moderate frothy light brown head, fairly sticky lacing.   Big campfire nose, charred wood big time.   Cherry fruitiness is there, but very subtle.   Green (young) hop flavor on first sip.   Hot, as in alcohol and biting hop bitterness.   Roasted malts are strong, in the sense of bitterness.   Cherry aspect is very minimal.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Comes across as a young, yet rich, Imperial Stout with a very slight fruity flair.   Finish yields a bit of earthiness... and/or soil aspects.   Overall seems a bit too hot.   Could stand to age a bit more.   Campfire and earth, with a soft Cherry presense sum this one up fairly well.   Thanks goes out to Dickinsonbeer for the sample!

Hand bottled, courtesy of Dickinsonbeer. Poured onyx with a light brown fizzy/creamy head. Aroma of some fruity acidity, roasted coffee, grassy hops, and alcohol. Flavor is semi-sweet and consists of roasted coffee and coffee grounds, bitter cocoa, and grassy hops with just a bit of alcohol. Finishes dry with some leftover coffee flavor and bitter hops. Fairly full-bodied. In all honesty, I’m not tasting much cherry. I suppose I could use this as a reason to lower the score, but personally I see no justificaiton for that. After all, I’m not too keen on fruit with my chocolate and/or coffee, so it’s probably just as well that I can’t taste it. Overall lacks some of the depth and complexity of more outstanding Imperial Stouts, but is still nicely crafted in its own right. I’d recommend, assuming you’re not looking for intense cherry flavor.

Poured a clear and very deep ruby color with a thin head. Roasted malt aroma with smokey and chocolate notes. Some cherry is there in the mix. The flavor started with roasty malt and some cherry. There was an alcohol taste on the finish with warmth in the chest. Medium bodied.

Much thanks to dickinsonbeer for this. I mistakingly opened this, thinking it may have been one of his homebrews that he left at my house by accident. Luckily, I jotted down some notes to report back to him on... Appears a dark brown, borderline black with a light tan head that slowly fades out. Scattered streaks of lacing are left around the glass. Smell is of roasty, oaty, cocoa infused grain, caramel, and only a mild amount of cherry that’s buried in the background with a slight cloying, sugary aroma that seems to compliment the roasted malts well. Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a nice complex flavor that teeters in between sweetness and roastiness. Mouthfeel is full bodied, complex, mildly cloying, with a short blast of CO2 along the tongue.

Draught sample at Union Beer Trade Tasting, NYC. Deep black with ruby flashes and a small tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, tobacco, chocolate, cherry and smoke. Flavour is very nice - hints of source cherry poke through a fantastic malty stout, with a lingering bitter and fruity finish that gets better and better as it warms. Mouthfeel is a little light for an Imperial, but it works well with this beer. Nice stuff!
