Commercial Description:
Blue Point Brewing's Summer Ale has a delicious golden taste. In addition to traditional barley malt; a substantial portion of wheat malt is added to the mix giving this brew a unique tartness that's not found in many beers today. A small amount of lemon is added with one other "special" ingredient that all combine together to produce a light, thirst-quenching, citrus flavor microbrew enjoyed by all on a hot, Long Island Summer day.

A pleasant enough summer ale. Crisp malt / wheat / citrus, a little sweetness, a little offsetting citrus sour. Not complex, easy to drink. And the low alcohol is a big plus ... this is a lawn mowing beer, a beer for standing at a hot grill flipping burgers, or a beer after a round of golf. Nothing complicated, but a pleasant enough easy drinking brew.

On tap at the brewery. Fresh tasting, light fruityness (black cherries). Earthy, straw-like grassyness, slightly dry finish.

(12oz bottle, best by 10/06) Sparkling, crystal clear straw body topped by small white head. Aroma is medium sweet, grassy, some spice, light lemon, bread. Taste is muted, medium sweet, bread, grassy/straw, light lemon. Watery light body.

Via secret santa Summer 2006. I decided to use a pilsner glass on this one. Kinda glad I did because it really shows off the nice carbonation and clean golden body. A thick frothy white head sits atop the beer with a decent lacing. The aroma is dusty grains and light "stale" hops. The flavor fortunately is a bit better than the aroma. Wheat, crisp grains, toasty graham crackers, lightly hoppy. The palate is clean and refreshing and not watery. Pretty drinkable. Would be good on an extremely hot day.

Draft at Max’s. Clear gold. No head as the pinty glass is filled to the brim. Nose is slightly fruity and grainy but overall kind of bland and thin. Taste is grains, sweet malts, and light citrus. Body is light and crisp. Finishes with more grains, light citrus and sweet malts.

Bottle. Pours a clear yellow with a quickly disappearing head. Nose is skunky. Flavor is thin and beery but as the beer warmed there was some hidden fruits behind all this other stuff. When I got a taste of that part I liked, but when I did not....yuck.

I like most of Blue Point’s beers so I thought I’d pick up a growler of this... big mistake. Pale golden, thin white head. Lightly wheaty and malty with a hint of toast. In the mouth though, that toast turns to an acrid charred bitterness. Very strange brew, and not in a good way. Highly forgettable.
