Commercial Description:
Blue Point Brewing's Summer Ale has a delicious golden taste. In addition to traditional barley malt; a substantial portion of wheat malt is added to the mix giving this brew a unique tartness that's not found in many beers today. A small amount of lemon is added with one other "special" ingredient that all combine together to produce a light, thirst-quenching, citrus flavor microbrew enjoyed by all on a hot, Long Island Summer day.

Draft at KClingers. Golden. Virtually no head. Very even keeled ... malty, biscuity, cookie flavors, this could be a Koelsch, could be a MGD (well, it’s not that bad). Decently light bitter finish. OK blonde ale. (#3003, 7/3/2007)

Tap @ Blue Point Brewery. Wow, this is a whole lot of nothing. It’s a smooth golden ale but the decent sweetness in the beginning leads absolutely nowhere. Disappointing, and I will not try this again.

Nice and smooth, but lacks any distinguishing flavor. Would be decent on a hot summer day, but I can’t rate much better than most macros. Points for simplicity but nothing else

Bottle. Yellow/amber with a small head. Aroma of wheat, lemon and sweet malt. Mostly dry taste with a hint of tangy lemon. Another light bodied, refreshing but easily forgettable Summer brews.

Big old esters in this one. All you really taste is bubblegum and the lemon wedge they drop in it. Not bad but clearly an inexperienced brewer.

Taster at brewpub. I kind of just refused to buy 6 packs of this for the price of their regular offerings. However, a free taster is fine enough and even worth rating. But overall this was actually a surprisingly decent brew. Color is dark yellow and completely lucid. A lightly sweet corn with mostly a refreshing maltiness, can’t really describe it any better. I don’t taste any lemon as the description says but it was definitely a crisp maltiness. Taste is a refreshing slightly estery maltiness peppered with light biscuit. A bunch of breweries make a light or lawnmower or summer beer but this is actually a decent one. Thirst quenching and recommended for that.

On tap at D’s in Regent Square, Swissvale. Basic pale yellow american lager color and appearance but I think it is just a little hazy. Smell is a little hoppy and with some fruit. Taste is as hoppy as it smells, kind of surprising for a golden ale. Barely leaves any hop bitterness on the palate at first but it is definately hoppy. Cannot detect much citrus except for the citrus rind taste. Medium low carbonation. Bitterness on the back of the throat builds to a medium lasting linger that hangs for a while after the session. A little too much hops for me in a blonde ale. Northen Country Northern Lite is much better than this as a golden ale.

This beer is a lighter stylke beer but the nose does show some decent notes of citrus. The hops cotribute to the citrus and the wheat added makes it somewhat complex. It drinks very smooth and light.
