Commercial Description:
Blue Point Brewing's Winter Ale is a hearty and robust amber ale. Brewed to chase away the chill of a cool winter night. Made with Pale, Vienna, crystal and chocolate malt. This uncommon amber is only brewed during the cold months of the year. Winter Ale is an extremely popular seasonal specialty. Enjoy the tasty balance of malt and hops. Remember this special ale leaves with Winter.

(12 oz bottles: Obtained in trades with hopscotch and shadey, thanks Eric and Shane!) Purchase before Jun, 2006. The nose is hoppy, grassy, caramely and malty, but not all that sweet. Caramely maltiness is moderately sweet-tasting and lightly roasty, but hops is clearly in evidence as well, both in actual flavor and in the moderate, balancing level of bitterness. Medium-full bodied and gently carbonated, but the beer deposits a slick, oily coating in my mouth, though I don’t taste its usual cause. Medium brown color with near-perfect clarity. Two fingers of light-tan head gradually settles to a thin, but complete layer, leaving a dense foam on the glass. A nice, simple winter beer.

Decent Winter Ale, Very dark, hints of chocolate in the mix, with nice burnt malt and hops aftertaste. Good for a snowy evening!

Amber color with a nice creamy offwhite head. Malty aroma, some hops, a bit creamy. Flavor is bitter, but also brings malts and nuts.

Cask offering at Spuyten in Brooklyn. Very nice tatste for such a low abv offering. Great amber color and head. Nice caramel flavors. Good hops. Tasted very similar to a double pale to me.

Bottled. Ruby red, not much head. Grassy, hoppy nose with ryeish and fruity notes. Also some weak barnyardish notes can be found. Strong grassy malty and hoppy flavour with some spicy hints. Quite watery palate after all the different stronger ABV stuff. Good for a 4,5% though.

Bottled (BB 04/2006)
Clear ruby red color, small off-white head. Rye-malty aroma with some barnyardish notes. Malty, a bit hoppy too. Good palate for a 4.5% brew. Balanced, solid but a bit boring beer.

From the bottle, pours a clear amber with visible rising carbonation bubbles leading to a foamy off-white head that leaves a nice lacing on the glass. Aromas of sweet malts. Tastes malty, with some bitters. Tasty, but finishes of bitter grassy hops. Not a pleasant aftertaste.
