| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 2, 2001 A dark, malty concoction that is pleasing and satisfying throughout. Rich, chocolate-like undertones are slightly offset by a nice hop tang. This is a fine example of English-style porter. cazort (420), Newark, Delaware, USA

However, the minute the flavour hits: wow. This one is very well done and the flavour offsets anything else less than great that you could say about this beer. A very delicate balance of roasted malt, some hops (not very bitter), and thick molasses flavour, a little bit dry, and not at all sweet. I love it: the rich molasses flavour, without the sweetness is definitely a winning combination. This one also does a good job of tasting "like a porter" without tasting much at all like any other porter I’ve had, so they get some bonus points for originality! And I might add that the price is quite reasonable. drpimento (882), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA

What I can say is that it is not quite opaque, pours a nice thick, lingering head with lots of lace; good clean nose with definite chocolate aromas along with malty, roastiness. Flavor is vary similar to nose. A little sharpness from maybe roasted barley and/or black patent. Good rich mouthfeel. Got this in a beer of the month shipment. coldbrewky (738), Saugerties, New York, USA

I had not consmed any Blue Ridge from Frederick since I was back in training with the USDA. A group had gone for the Saturday tour and we were subsequently invited to their Company Christmas party since we didn’t leave after the tour was over.....friendly bartenders. This may be one of the close to perfect porters in the world. Smooth and big in body. Aroma of chocolate and dark caramel malts that fill the room. Dark brown to black in the glass with mobile windows of brown thru the glass. A big chocolate body that is not interfered by black malts or overdone hops. Send More! The head becomes a thin ring around the glass. The palate is malty up front, the middle stays malty. Finally, the finish is slightly hoppy. Lots of complex chocolate fruit flavors. Nice and roasty porter. Well done and drinkable. Drinkingdan (371), East Norriton, Pennsylvania, USA

Tastes roasty malty, with chocoff, some licorice, hops, and spice. Fairly dense palate with a fairly dry finish. Solid. Blue Ridge (Frederick BC) is a damn good brewer!
