| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 5, 2005 Bottle. A slightly hazy mahogany pour with a smallish khaki head. Nutty and malty aroma with hints of maple syrup, caramel and vanilla. Smooth medium body. Some fairly rich nutty and roasty flavors. Hints of coffee throughout. There’s also a nasty sour taste present that’s common in most brown ales. An average seasonal. hotstuff (3183), Indiana, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 31, 2005 Bottle. Small sized ivory head that was mostly lasting, fine-large sized bubbles, poor lacing, carbonated, transparent, and a reddish hue. Malty, roasty, hoppy, sweet aroma. Malty, roasty flavor. Boring and not much going on with the flavor. Slightly tingly palate. Light body. Unimpressive. pjk33 (384), Sligo - Curllsville Heights, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Oct 13, 2005 Bottle. Radio Star Kevin Battle gave me this one. Dark brown with not much head or lace and lots of particles floating about. Nose is weak, maybe some toffee and nuts, but not overwhelming. Smells a little sweet. Flavor is not sweet, more like coffee with some hint of caramel, but not a great flavor, just average. Body is disappointing, but not a bad beer. This one just falls a little short. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 11, 2005 Toasty caramel, low spice factor in the aroma. Amber brown, moderate head. Thin body, and although there are flashes of Englishness, there’s no there there in the end. I shared with my housemate where I was subletting and she didn’t want to finish her half. Bottle. blank (998), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 29, 2005 really malty with a little too much alchohol. Still a little bit of hops sneaking in the back door too. Still a little too strong and unbalanced. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 1, 2005 Copper color with aroma of caramel malt, spice, nuts. Tastes caramel malty, nutty, with some finishing toffee and hops. Medium palate. Good, but not great. skisangelo (60), Collingswood, New Jersey, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 29, 2005 Pours with a small head with little carbonation and leaves no lace. Deep ruby/garnet color. Nice malt flavor, with medium sweetness. It was an okay beer but nothing special. swirl (267), collingswood, New Jersey, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Mar 25, 2005 Unfortunately this beer is not what I want out of a winter ale. Though it has a nice copper/red appearance in the glass it lacks the spiciness that I enjoy in traditional winter ales.
