12oz bottle via trade with slob! - Thanks Bert! - Pours a dark amber with a pretty large creamy tan head that stays well and laces the glass in thick layers. Aroma is of toasted malts, and a touch of roasted nuts, and a hint of grassy hops. Flavor is much more malty. Caramel, hazelnut, some chocolate, and some light minty hops on the finish. Palate is buttery and creamy. This seems a little underrated to me but then again I’m drawn to the malty styles. Not bad..

Semi-translucent and ruby-brass in color with sudsy tan bubbles and a centered cloister for the head. Leaven bread starts the aroma, pursued by copper tin, buttery sauté grease post almonds, peachy campfires and cardboard saturated with rain water. Mild cocoa fruition of flavor is sidelined by a syrupy sugar trait. Some Aunt Jemima jams with cocoa butter. Hazelnut coffee syrup to boot, and it’s nearly impossible to shake an artificial extract sense, purity law or not. Sleek, syrupy palate performance with malt extract skewing the balance beyond belief. Artificial nature abounds in the finish. Nevertheless, always happy to try a new doppelbock, and thanks for bringing it along, JPDIPSO!

Thanks John. The beer pours to a clean red wood body with a visible carbonation and a thin white head. The aroma is similar to water chestnuts mixed with a simple toasted grain. Not very exciting, but not offensive. The flavor is kinda woody with nice toasty grains and light grassy hops. The palate is medium bodied with a nice mouthfeel.

Lightly cloudy chestnut color. Somewhat fizzy light tan head. Heavy malt aromas, with dark caramel, brown sugar and only a hint of herbal hops. Simple sugary stews scents, but nothing real disturbing. Thin and somewhat watery in feel. Mild caramel and wintergreen flavors duke things out in the middle and make the rest of the quaff uneventful. A continued cola quality throughout is a touch annoying. Mild buckwheat honey flavors late. An odd animal as it is. Reminds me of a few foreign flavors I’ve had. Need more depth and character.

Clear light brown colour. The head died like it was a Pepsi. Cardboardy, thick malt aroma, rather indistinct. Blunt toffee, earthy, cardboardy malt character. Sweet, with a slightly hot finish. Lack of complexity and lack of melanoidins put this one below the Mendoza line for me.

Thanks to slob for sending this one! Starts a bit light in the color, being a medium amber with a large off-white head. Light malt aroma with some alcohol. The flavor begins malty but falls away at the end with a bitter finish. Needs a deeper maltiness with less of the bitter finish to really be a great Doppelbock.

Yeasty, nutty aroma with notes of plums and cookie dough and a strong, sweet, sugary character. Hazy ruby brown with decent off white head that recedes to ring with some light lacing. Tannin rich, fruity plum flavour with herbal hops apparent, light finishing bitterness and fleeting notes of alcohol. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Bottle sampled with MartinT, Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere.
