| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 6, 2005 Body is a dep mahogany underneath a small, tightly packed tan head. Aroma is heavy on caramel maltiness and alcohol, like most doppels. Flavor is typical double bock; heavy sweet malts and alcohol somewhat offset by a mild hops presence. Finishes sticky swet. thegreenrooster (1842), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 1, 2005 Pour is a red-brown with a white head. Aroma is a nice carmel malt with a strong hop presence. Flavor is a nice mix of dark fruits and malts. The end is anice hit of alcohol. Strong and malty. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 1, 2005 12 oz bottle. Color is brown with some red around the edges and pours with a small tan head. Taste goes back and forth between the sweet malts and light fruits (grapes, apples and plums). A nice dopple but no where near Celebrator. SwedeDog (364), Windsor, Connecticut, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 21, 2005 Bottle. Poured hazy and red with a frothy head that dissipates quickly and leaves virtually no lacing. Good aroma, although it’s somewhat on the astringent side. There’s also notes of dough, caramel and dark malts in the nose. Upon first sip, it attacks your palatte with a double whammy of spice and alcohol, instantly cleaning out your mouth better than any mouthwash. Very tingly. Despite the initial onslaught (or maybe it should be in spite of), the flavor is a tad light. Alcohol astringency is always at the fore with spice and sweet malts hot on it’s heels. Grassy hops appear at the finish and combine with the alcohol to make for a dry and bitter finish. It’s a decent doppelbock, but it lacks the strong flavor and nuttiness to set it apart. Thank to slob! Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 18, 2005 12 oz. bottle from Slob, who has the patience of the Saints. Poured a dark and cloudy amber, Huge foamy and creamy tan head. Tiny bubbles lined up all over the glass. Inviting. The aroma was sweet/sour malts, with yeast at the end. This starts with the alcohol, and is followed with dark fruits, and the carbonation carries the bitter end leaving a pleasant after taste. Good, I am liking this brewery. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 12, 2005 12 oz bottle pours a bright hazy amber with a decent light brown head that leaves some lacing in my glass, Malty roasted nutty aroma, malty sweet caramel-toffee, nutty and bready flavors. Medium to full bodied with a thick yet carbonated mouthfeel, finishes sweet. A very tasty and drinkable dopple. Homebrewerguy (285), Oil City, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Jun 10, 2005 Zis certainly don’t compare to zhe Doppelbocks brewt in Chermany. Zis one lacked complexity unt body, two things I be lookink for in wome...er, I mean bier. Unt I luf mein Doppels! Earlier Rating: 6/5/2005 Total Score: 2.9 I did’nt see anything special about this beer. In fact, it was too light for style and lacked complexity. The caramel malt flavor was weak but did balance out the weak hops as well. Perhaps this beer was too young yet, but age won’t improve it’s body any. Indra (2036), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 5, 2005 12oz. bottle. Sweet, sugary aroma, some caramel and raisin alongside bready, dark malts and faint licorice. Clear medium-dark amber brown color, no real head development or lacing to speak of. Flavor is sweet, plenty of brown sugary maltiness and toasty caramel with a moderate amount of spicy bitterness up front and seeing some doughy yeast and alcoholic tinges on the finish. Gentle, dark raisin fruitiness here and there. Palate is somewhat prickly and thin, lightly warming with a medium-full body. Fairly good Doppel.
