Has somewhat of a a smoky, roasted aroma to it. Black as night appearance with a thin and quickly dissipating mocha colored head. Dry, roasted coffee flavor with very subtle bitter chocolate notes. Just a tad thin and watery for a stout. Pretty decent for a brewpub stout though. Good night cap. NachlamSie (1640), Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 31, 2006 draught. This stout is a deep, near opaque red with a fading tan head. The aroma is of sweet bread with faint coffee and a bit of cola. There’s a bit more roasted barley in the flavor, a pleasant caramel sweetness, a bit of chalk, and burned toast. | 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Oct 6, 2005 Totally diminishing fizzy head tops the coffee colored beer. Quite a beany bouquet, herbal and grainy, but not much else. It becomes more vinous in mouth, with grape undertones, but also the counterpart, namely a disturbing lactic character that slices through the thin body. Pretty poor stout. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 31, 2004 dark, and very good. a little sweet, but alas, its still very good. nice chocolate/coffee flavor. the dark beers are always something worth trying, because it seems that its hard to mess one up if you are a professional brewer. damn nice, id order this one no questions asked. sampled at brewgrass 04 on draught. 00cobraR (1098), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 31, 2004 A nice stout that is black in body. The flavor is nice but a bit bitter. This is a good brew worth another glass. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 29, 2004 This was a really tasty stout. Above average, but not a great stout in the sense of complexity and being unique. The flavors are very typical of a stout, and the aftertaste is lingering and sweet. It is very easy to drink and that is what I like about it. I would drink another glass. The process that they make there beer is quite unique. Another nice quality is the hoppiness this one has. gthank (73), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 19, 2002 An average stout. Average head, black body. Average aroma. Perhaps a bit thin on the tongue. A bit hoppy for my taste, but I’m not sure if this was due to a lack of malt, or an overabundance of hops, but most likely a little of both. Overall, this is pretty much an average stout (which means it is an above-average beer). aracauna (2389), Georgia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 17, 2002 Hoppy bitter for a stout. My guess is that it was also a bit light for a stout so there wasn’t an abundance of malt covering the hops. Good head.
