| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 29, 2004 This was a really tasty stout. Above average, but not a great stout in the sense of complexity and being unique. The flavors are very typical of a stout, and the aftertaste is lingering and sweet. It is very easy to drink and that is what I like about it. I would drink another glass. The process that they make there beer is quite unique. Another nice quality is the hoppiness this one has. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 31, 2004 dark, and very good. a little sweet, but alas, its still very good. nice chocolate/coffee flavor. the dark beers are always something worth trying, because it seems that its hard to mess one up if you are a professional brewer. damn nice, id order this one no questions asked. sampled at brewgrass 04 on draught. tronraner (1938), Seymour, Tennessee, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 7, 2009 Draught at the brewpub. Pours brown-black with khaki head. The aroma is slightly smoky with thorough roastiness, some chocolate and toffeee notes. The flavor is clean roastiness with peanut notes and a mild acidity. Bitter chocolate and wood come out in the finish. Definitely on the lighter side, but not too bad. ChainGangGuy (2613), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 13, 2007 Appearance: Opaque black body with a small, thin khaki-colored head.
Smell: Aroma of unsweetened chocolate and anise with just a dash of black coffee.
Taste: Dark chocolate and spicy anise start the taste. Just when a mild sweetness begins to emerge the earthy, roasty bitterness kicks in and last into the finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Mild carbonation.
Drinkability: Solid for one of those less-than-sweet stouts. NachlamSie (1649), Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 31, 2006 draught. This stout is a deep, near opaque red with a fading tan head. The aroma is of sweet bread with faint coffee and a bit of cola. There’s a bit more roasted barley in the flavor, a pleasant caramel sweetness, a bit of chalk, and burned toast. timsilvia32 (447), from Michigan now in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 17, 2008 Opaque pour, almost no aroma with this. Light roasted malt. Some coffee, roasted/burnt malts, very little if any chocolate. Needed just a little more of pretty much everything you expect from a stout. It was very drinkable however. Of the 3 I sampled, this was probably the best at BRBC. changeup45 (800), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 18, 2008 Dark color, pretty much black, with a medium sized tan head. The first flavor I noticed was coffee then some light roasted maltiness with bitter hops following. I thought this beer was a tad thin and I really could sum it up with coffee and some bitter hops being pretty much what I got out of it. Still, it wasn’t bad at all and definitely a decent drink.
