Aug 1, 2006 Draft - Black, tan creamy lasting head. Very nice nose of roasted vanilla bean, chocolate, and mild coffee. Flavor was deeply roasted chocolate tones, touches of vanilla and coffee, with a light citric hop tone late. Light to medium bodied, pillow soft carbonation, semi-bittersweet finish. Nice stuff...

Aug 27, 2004 Draught at Blue Star Brewing Company, San Antonio, Texas.
Tall and foamy long lasting light brown head on a black body - beautiful! Bittersweet aroma with coffee and roasted malt. Nice roasted tone in the flavor with coffee and citrus notes. Little thin but tasty and easy drinkable!

Black color; thin creamy head. Light roasted malt aroma. Very smooth and milky texture, good roasted malt flavor, with the correct bitterness; refreshing, for a Stout. Interesting.

Jun 12, 2003 Nice black color with small tan head that lingers. Nice lace. Great roast malt/toffee flavors with just enough hops to balance. Not sweet. Its a bit on the thin side (perhaps to better suit the Texas heat?) but otherwise an excellent stout.

Jun 30, 2008 ON tap at the brewpub; looked the part perfectly. Nice creamy head. Aroma was a bit roasted with some cocoa and vanilla. Flavor was good, cocoa and roasted malt; great mouthfeel. Good beer.

Dec 20, 2008 Draft at brewpub 8/28/08-Pours black with a nice tight tan head. Aroma of coffee and roasted malt. Taste of the same with some chocolate thrown in. This medium bodied brew was a bit watered down and weak for a stout.

Feb 26, 2003 I'm told their recipe changed. Incredible body and head. But it has a watery texture and is too thin. Smoky malt. An oxymoron of a beer.
