motelpogo (4111), Plzen, Czech Republic Feb 8, 2005 on tap at the brewery in newcastle (i mean the pub called the brewery that used to be a brewery and not the brewery called blue tongue brewery that still is a brewery). pretty bizarre that an aussie brewery is making a lambic beer on purpose though i’m only taking their word for it that they chucked in some lambic bacteria. apart from the commercial blurb it was hard to tell this was a lambic. a surprisingly dark, browny-pink colour with a persistent whipped eggwhite head. aroma of too much raspberry syrup and a slightly acidic woodiness. quite sweet, curiously big mouthfeel, faint sourness and some unwelcome generic hop flavour, like they just shoved in a small amont of their regular hops. anyways, not entirely pleasant, gets a couple of marks for trying. maybe one day australia will overtake belgium as the world’s most highly-regarded lambic brewer and this will be known as the beer that started it all
