Commercial Description:
Altbier, literally translated as “Old Style” beer, is a classic German ale. BBC Altbier is brewed with additions of Munich, wheat, caramel, and chocolate malts creating a delicate, but flavorful malt profile. This delicious amber colored session beer is balanced with additions of tradtional spicy German hops creating a light and floral bouquet to compliment its complex malt profile.

Dammit, I bought this because I thought it was an alt, what a misleading name. The Amber Ale mention is in fine print at the bottom of the label. The body is dark orange with a slightly yellowish head. The aroma is caramel with some rich iced tea and a little bit of almonds. There is also some sweet apple behind the rest of those smells. The taste is light grapefruit and old iced tea. There is also some bitter apple core in the finish. Too much carbonation.

On tap at the Cincinnati airport taproom, 4/2/06: True amber color. Very mellow caramel for the most part with a bit of a tart swirl in the middle of the swallow. Well made, albeit a llittle boring.

Bottle from fellow Dark Brotherhood Of Kevin, member uh, Kevin Danke!

Pours a thick, lush amber... almost like sap in the glass. Aroma is Cheerios. No kidding. Just like sniffin’ a new bag of the toasted oat cereal that bears that name. Flavor is like a weird watered down apricot with a spiky hop finish. Malt is in there smoewhere, but the weirdness of the taste seems to jumble it up too much. Second sip seems much more balanced. More hops detected. Okay, now this stuff has turned to water...

Light brown pour with a red glare and thin gray ring that passes as a head. Trail mix nose; nutty herbs and raisins and plums and a bit of smoke. Flavor is sweet with a woody finish that is dry. The apricot flavor is not bad here, it mixes with a nice roast note. Not a bad beer. Ap-3 ar- 7 tas- 6 pal-4 ov-14

Amber color with no head. Malt "alt" aroma too it. Not entirely sure what makes that smell. Pretty mild with a little big of a bit to the finish. Easy enough to drink.

Draught at brewpub. Pours amber to ruby wtih a white edgy head. Light malt and yeast aroma with a slight hoppy nose. Yeasty malt (meal) flavor with a fizzy hop finish. Medium bodied and thin, spicy palate.
