It poured very nicely and had a promising aroma to it, but the bitterness of this ale is overwhelming. too bitter for my taste. Gregis (1135), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 14, 2007 Pours a hazy, iced tea brown with a small, dense, creamy, beige head. The aroma is one of the nicest I’ve ever gotten from an APA: toasty pale and caramel malt with a clean, bright, fruity hop backing. Medium-bodied and slick with a moderately bitter finish. The flavor is like a blend of an ESB and a traditional APA: a toasty malt front with a light caramel undertone and a bitter, piny hop finish. A tasty APA that leans a bit towards the bitter side of the spectrum. obguthr (1067), Poquoson, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 10, 2007 Marvelous aroma of grapefruit, pine, caramel, and thistle with a hint of strawberry. Opaque ochre, medium vanishing off white head, nice lacing. Dry and bitter with pronounced grapefruit notes. Medium body. Finish is pine with a bit of tar that doesn’t really detract. Not all that complex, but very enjoyable. Actually quite unique and particularly well done. What an unexpected delight! Angeloregon (2036), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 20, 2007 On tap at the Cincinnati airport terminal--This pale ale was enjoyed at "America’s Most Convenient Getaway" and boy, were they right. A copper-bronze body with a medium off-white head. Thick top-to-bottom lacing. Malty and hoppy nose. Bitter and well-balanced. Surprisingly enjoyable considering where we got it. slight haze, huge cask head, light citrus hop aroma, rich cream body, light hop flavor but a long bitter finish, the cask mellows it into a fine esb

Flavor is nicely bitter, with some caramel malt and a sharp, hoppy finish. Pretty hoppy stuff, but a tad thin throughout. That aside, this is a tasty brew.
