Commercial Description:
An American standard, BBC APA is a full bodied and heavily hopped American Ale. It is copper in color and brewed with a blend of pale and crystal malts, balancing the citrus and pine flavors from large doses of American and English hops to create a very drinkable, hoppy ale. BBC APA is a hophead’s dream!

Pours a copper/iced tea looking color. Head is egg-shell and a little thin, but still manages to leave great lacing. Aroma is funky, vegetable hops, basil and a starchy, boiled noodles smell. Taste is pointed hops, pine, basil, pencil shavings, with a little sweet caramel for malt. Bitter aftertaste. Really a hop centric beer, unbalanced. Bought this 12 oz bottle from World Market in Vienna, VA.

12 oz bottle via Malt of The Earth beer club. Pours a hazy dark amber with an average size beige head. Nose is subdued with some piney citrusy hoppiness. Tastes like it smells and packs a decent hop punch in the finish with orange peel, grapefruit, pine and even some spiceness, although the aftertaste is a bit metallic and astringant. Body is medium and carbonation is moderate. Not bad.

12 oz bottle. Pours to a slightly hazy, burnt orange color, with a thick, creamy, white head, and a good bit of carbonation. The nose on this beer is pleasing with fragrant aromas of pine and citrus, paired with aromas of toffee and caramel. The palate is firm with good biscuit, caramel malt, and toffee flavor, paired with a subtle back drop of citrus hop flavor. This beer finishes with more good sweet malty flavor up front, then ends with a tangy, citrus hop bite that slightly lingers. Well done, easy drinking APA, with good malt and hop character. I like the fact that the hop bitterness isn’t too overdone in this beer, yet still shines. A very good beer, from a very good brewery.

Nice deep amber coloured body with a very thin tan head. Aroma of strong hops, caramel, malt and toffee. Medium-bodied; Strong metallic and malty flavours definitely influenced by the stronger hops and the piney flavours throughout. Aftertaste shows some more sweetness and good malt throughout - all completely blessed by the hops. Overall, a good APA, not amazing, but a very well-rounded beer. I sampled this twelve ounce botle purchased from Norm’s Beer & Wine in Vienna, Virginia on 21-April-2007 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

The beer pours a hazy orange color with a frothy head. The head leaves nice lacing on the side of the glass. The beer smells both sweet/malty and hoppy. The beer is much more bitter than I was expecting and with a hint of fresh cut grass. There is a hint of sweetness in the aftertaste. The bitterness really gets the tastebuds at the back sides of my tongue. Though this beer doesn’t have a lot of body it does have a nice, clean, bitter taste. Overall, not a bad pale ale.

A good beer in a very average brewery. I really enjoy the APA style that has come out in recent years, and this one is hoppy and fresh. Certainly, the best BBC beer that I had.

Bottle. Sweet grapefruit and lychee aroma. Beautiful dense and frothy creamy head, long-lasting with a clear orange-amber body. Strong bitter taste with grapefruit and lychee accents and a splash of piny resin, but not too much. Some citrus zest. Hops are delicious, and this is loaded with ’em. Surprisingly full body. Clean, bitter, hoppy aftertaste with a little sweetness. Very nice offering. [3.5]

Update: developing into one of my favorites - a big ’bang-for-your-buck’ PA....

Very slightly hazy amber body with a rocky light tan head. Sweet floral hops aroma. Sweet caramel and floral hops flavor.
