Commercial Description:
The beer formerly known as Ultra, our double IPA. A nice malt backbone and warming alcohol, take a supporting role to the massive hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. Distinctly American, with Cascade, Simcoe and Columbus hops, 6 different additions during the boil and then the hot wort is strained through 15# of fresh whole hops. If you like hoppy beers give it a try, if you don’t you can probably use it to degrease your engine.

750 mL bottle shared by Kurt, but oddly enough not the same Kurt mentioned in Juelze’s rating. Cloudy orange pour with a medium off-white head. Sweet and grainy malt with some citrus hops. Earthy hop flavor with a sweet malt balance and bitter finish.

Big 750ml bottle shared by Kurt from Titletown. Pours a very cloudy copper color with medium sized cream colored head. Aroma is of citrus hops, caramel malt and some light pine aromas. Taste is citrus hops, earth, and caramel malt. Not bad but I prefer the hops to be more in the forefront.

Amber pour with a loose white head. Very floral aroma balanced with grapefruit and caramel. The flavor is also really piny and floral. Dry yet sticky medium-full body with lots of carbonation.

Metro Tasting. Poured a cloudy orange. Aroma was sweet malt, light orange, and a little dirty to be honest. Taste was a bit dirty as well, some orange, straighforward malt. A little watery for a double ipa.

7/03/2009: Bluegrass Homewrecker Double IPA pours a bright copper color. I detect honey and mild orange-vanilla in the aroma. This beer is moderately sweet and a bit yeasty and creamy. There is some toasty honey toffee malt and a mild to moderate amount of hoppiness. Some alcohol becomes more apparant when the beer warms up. This beer is sticky and feels like watery syrup in the mouth. I would consider this to be a pretty good IPA, but isn’t quite big enough to stand as a Double IPA.

750ml bottle (sample) at Party Town in Florence, Kentucky. Rating #103 for this beer.

Pours dark copper with a thin white head. Smells of light grapefruit but then gives way to a bit of dirty socks and laundry smells. The taste is very astringent. Really not much of a malt background. Some swet grapefruit comes through but the mustiness comes through overly strong.

750ml found in Plainfield IN. Fair. Poured a copper color with a good foamy head and heavy lacing. Aroma is a strong citrus hop, plenty of lemon rind, somewhat soapy. Flavor is heavy on the resiny citrus hops, malts in the background are mildly doughy with a wee hint of caramel. Finish is strongly bitter, with a lingering grapefruit rind and just a bit of a sting from alcohol. Overall a touch on the harsh side and not very drinkable, maybe its too much ABV. I dunno.
